Hi I’m new to this so if I leave out anything, I apologize. I feel like I’m not going to get into any of my choice schools. Here’s my list of schools I’m applying to:
Albany
FIT
Ithaca College
Stony Brooke
Now my GPA’s
2.8 freshman
3.1 sophmore
2.7 junior (was a really rocky year for me)
I don’t have grades for senior year yet since progress reports are not out yet. No honors or APs.
My EC is only cheerleading from 9-12, national art honors society for grade 10, and debate club for grade 11.
I was a girl scout freshman year and did bible camps from 9-10 grade. I also have been playing violin since age 8 and have been in the school orchestra since middle school.
I’m retaking my SAT November 7th but I got a 1480 on my first try.
I’m also Latino so that might help slightly, and I’m from a school district with a great reputation so that might help my grades out slightly. Just be honest, if I know I’m done for in the college field I might as well know as I start my applications.
You might have an uphill battle for some of the more selective of the schools (I don’t know much about those schools personally), but don’t count yourself out just yet! The more positive you are about it, the stronger your applications will end up being, because you will take them more seriously.
I would recommend expanding the list of places you’re applying to so you have a wider selection, just in case you don’t get into the ones on your list. But absolutely give it a try, and make sure senior year is your strongest!
I actually go to a really high rank school in my state and I never forget some of my teachers saying “this would be an honors class in another school.” for the normal class I was in. I am getting an Advanced Regents Diploma for 2 classes I took my junior year (algebra 2 and trig/chemistry.) I might apply to a few more to be safe, these schools are my top choices.
I agree. You should add a few schools and at least one safety you know you’ll get into and can afford-unless you are willing to take a gap year if things don’t go your way. I’m not suggesting you’d end up at your safety so much as your current list is too short and it is hard to know how your record will be interpreted.
I’m back after a few months. I got into Albany and Iona (a safety I applied for) and didn’t get into Stony Brook, which I’m not surprised at. I’ll hopefully get into my others!
