My Act is extremely low, and I have retaken it multiple times and a 28 is the best I have gotten, is there any hope I can still get into UMich? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much;)
Where is your home state? What is your intended major?
michigan and computer science
also i know this does not qualify as legacy status in the slightest, but my uncle is umicha alumni. would that help at all?
For CS, you may apply to LSA or CoE. LSA would be slightly easier to get in particularly from in state. However, you may want to improve your ACT score a little bit. It is currently a low reach for you. The ACT mid 50 is 30-34 this year.
Secondary legacy does not help much. In fact, many of the in state students would have second legacy anyway with cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc attended UMich.
okay thank you so much! if i take it in December, could i submit these scores later for regular decision?
Most likely. I have the opposite problem, I have a 30 ACT and a low math score. I don’t believe U of M superscores.
The results will most likely make it in time, but designate U of M when you sign up for the ACT again.
Also here is my tip. I went from a 27 to a 32 in science from not reading the passage. I completed the work at a faster pace without reading the passage. A lot of the information is related to the graphs. There is only one section where you need to read it to compare viewpoints. Do you have any tips for me for the Math ACT.
thank you so much i will try that! and for the math i always did the last 10 questions first and i made sure to do them under the first 15 minutes (of the 60 you have) because they are the hardest. the other 50 are relatively easier, and by the end of the test when you are less focused you wont have to do the hard ones. i also memorized all the geometry theorems and such, thank you so much for your help:)
Indian = Native American or India? Native Americans from a Michigan tribe get free tuition. Otherwise you are Asian on the form but it doesn’t matter ; Michigan does not use race as a factor.
I would apply to LSA with your current ACT. Engineering is going to be most concerned about your math score, which is very good. I would apply to engineering if you raise your composite to 33 or more, as a female in-state you should have a bit of an edge.
i applied to lsa, my act wasn’t nearly good enough for engineering. is there any hope for lsa or am i basically out:/ thank you so much for any advice and input!
also india indian, not native american haha
Your gender might help due to your interest in computer science. Your ACT is a little low but your GPA and transcript are solid. I put your chances at fair++ to be accepted, good to be at least wait-listed.
Gender does not help in LSA admission.
