Hi, I am a Texas resident hoping applying to UT Austin this upcoming fall and wanted to see how my chances are.
Major: Biochem or Biology
Class Rank: 75/670 (Top 11-12%) at a pretty competitive public school
SAT: 2050
ACT: 34
13 AP classes by senior year, with a few 5’s and 4’s
A few school clubs, with some officer positions and community service as well
I know it isn’t much to go off of, but any feedback would be great. Thanks!
Your sat score is pretty low but your act hides that. Maybe with suitable ec’s like researches and internships you have a 60-80% chance. There isn’t a lot of information provided about your ec’s and … how were your essays? they play a big part in the admission process
@sundog123 UT will use your ACT scores for the Math and English/Writing combined. Since you got a 34 composite I assume those are high also. Work hard on your essays. Try to get good recommendations. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application.
@sundog123 Forgive me if I am missing something, are you applying to UT for fall of 2016? I believe applications for fall 216 are closed as of December 1, 2015, with test scores allowed to be submitted until December 31, 2015.
Assuming your ACT score is well rounded ( not dominated by a high science score or a high score in one area) I would not retake your tests, UT uses the score that helps you the most in the academic index formula and your ACT will likely be fine. But send your SAT too in case the subscores help you more. I know that sounds weird but look at the AI and you’ll see what I mean.
Your rank is going to be the issue. You’ll need to keep that as high as you can by end of this year. It is possible to get in outside of top 7.percent (for class of 2017) but it is tougher.
As a previous poster said, your PAI is the other half of the equation. They’ll be interested in ECs that relate to your major and your essays.
Get educated on what the AI/PAI looks like by reading the last few pages of this report and have a back up plan. You’ll qualify for academic admission at A&M and they fill majors first come first serve there (as opposed to holistically) so look at that and apply early there.
