I am a junior hoping to go to a good engineering school to major in biomedical engineering. I live in New York and would prefer to stay in-state for financial reasons but if I get into a good college out-of-state I’ll probably go. I’ve been looking at RPI, RIT, Cornell, and Columbia (I know Ivies are usually a stretch but I was wondering about my chances for them anyway).
Unweighted GPA: 4.0 at competitive private high school
Class rank: My school does not rank students, if I had to give an estimate then top 10%.
PSAT: 99th percentile
SAT (new): 1380
ACT: 30
Yeah my test scores aren’t great but those are both first-time attempts. I will be taking them again. I expect a 33 ACT based on practice tests I did recently.
SAT II: Haven’t gotten results back for Bio E, Math I and Math II. Will take Physics, Chem, and Bio M.
All Honors classes in freshman/sophomore year, with an extra year in math, science, and Spanish (because I took algebra, earth science and spanish 1 regents in 8th grade)
4 APs this year and 5 next year, school does not let you take them before junior year sadly.
ECs:
- Cross Country and track for 3 years
- Expect to be in NHS next year
- Founder and president of Philosophical Society
- President of Debate Club
- 200+ hours of community service
Other factors:
- White male, middle class, so nothing helping me there, but…
- Parents are immigrants
- I’m the first generation to go to college
- English is my 2nd language
Chance me please!
