Chance Me

I’d like to get into Economics, Business, or Accounting at one of these schools

  • UT Austin
  • Michigan Ann Arbor (reach)
  • Wisconsin Madison (small reach)
  • Minnesota Twin Cities
  • Baylor
  • NYU (reach)

and would like to see my chances there if anyone could help please. Thank you in advance!

From Houston, Texas.

Scores:
ACT: 31 (Eng:31 Math:34 Reading:30 Science:29)

  • Should I retake? I ran out of time in all but Math and I havent done any practice for it before now.

SAT: 1430 (760 Math, 670 Reading) - I get scores back from the next one and am expecting even higher.

Class Rank: 63/754 before this year, and my gpa went up quite a bit. Transcripts come back July 21st. Last year I was 8.3% at the 63rd spot, now I am expecting top 7% (auto-admit at UT) with all A’s and a huge class of 750 people. I have to go up 12 spots and I think I did)

GPA: 6.61/7 (That was good for top 4% before this year, but they havent released rank for applications). My school doesnt do unweighted as far as I know.

Classes:
AP Physics
AP Human Geo
AP Calc BC
AP Stat
AP Psych
AP Govt
AP Economics
AP Computer Science

ECs:

  • School baseball team for 2 years, quit because I lost interest and wanted to focus more on school work
    -NHS
  • Part of CATSS (Volunteer Service)
  • Young Life Leader, help freshman get closer to god and meet 2-3 times a week.
  • Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society)
  • NHS
  • Summer Accounting Internship (about 1 month)

And if you guys could, please give me some recommendations on where else you think I should apply? Right now A&M is an easy backup, I have auto admit and could probably get some financial aid there.

What else do I need in this to generate a response? Please let me know and i’ll try to add it.

The problem that I have in where to place you is because of how unfamiliar I am with that GPA grading style. Since you say you are top 7%, then you can choose UT Austin and get in without any problems.

The University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, University of Wisconsin, and New York University are all in the same boat. If your GPA is high, you have about a 50/50. If they are considered lower than the applicants, then there is very little you could do but hope and write killer essays. It would be like a 25/75 that you got in with lower than average GPA, especially because the scores are not exceptional (don’t feel bad, we have the same ACT).

You can get into Univeristy of Minnesota- Twin Cities without any difficulties because they have a pretty good acceptance rate and you would be around average, if not higher (again, depends on the GPA).

Baylor and Texas A&M are safeties more likely than not.

Good Luck!

@UofMichigan1999 he gets automatic acceptance to UT, but he doesn’t get whatever major he wants. OP, right now UT isn’t a sure thing for mccombs. You’ll get into economics though.

@danfer91 Ohh! Sorry about the confusion then.

I updated.

My gpa is now a 6.61 / 7. That’s top 6.3% in my class.

I dont think I can edit my original post.

So you guys would say -
The University of Michigan Ann Arbor - reach
University of Wisconsin - high match
New York University - reach
UT - auto acceptance. But can someone please chance me for McCombs (business)!?!
Maryland - safety
Baylor - safety

Any more opinions?
