Also, what scholarships do/could I qualify for? Thanks a lot.
Not likely to get any scholarship with below admission average GPA and score unless you are recruited for certain sport of from music school. It would be a reach for you from OOS.
You have a chance at getting admission, but don’t expect scholarships from an out of state public university, as they have no obligation to provide out of state students with financial support. Even as an in state student, they won’t give me anything even though my academic performance is above average.
Obviously, they are not going to give merit scholarships to half of the students. So simply above average would not get you any merit money, not even at the 75th percentile. Main scholarships are offered to the top 1-2% admitted students only.
I’m talking about my performance while in college, not high school. Almost all of the university’s scholarships are need based. And in the College of Engineering, most are given to URM even if they only get mediocre grades, while those who are furthest from being URM (Asian males) can get nothing even with excellent grades.
^ Not really. The Engineering Scholarship of Honor is not need based, while the departmental ones for sophomore and above are merit based with demonstrated need (not solely need based). My D (Asian female) has received several engineering scholarships in both kinds. She got strong GPA, advanced standing, and leadership role in EC though. Again, a very small portion of students are receiving those scholarships and the departmental ones would depend on your major.
My daughter got an excellent departmental scholarship through UMich’s financial aid service. 5k each year for 4 years from a generous couple in New York. She has to keep her gpa up, do 40 hours of volunteer work yearly, write a gratitude letter, and attend a dinner to honor her benefactor to maintain her scholarship year to year. She’s studying microbiology. We’re a white working middle class family. She was fifth in her class, 3.96gpa, 30ACT. All you can do is apply and see what happens. Good Luck! But yes, indeed, there are scholarships available at UMich. We were very happily surprised.
