Chance me?

Hello all, I am very interested in Tulane (Top 3 school) so I thought that I would create this thread in order to see if I have a chance of being admitted.

Classes:

Unweighted GPA: 3.7 (3.68)
Weighted GPA: 4.1

All of my core classes have been either Honors, AP, or DE (except for one which I could not take as Honors due to scheduling conflicts).

I also will have taken the most credits of anyone at my school (if that matters) with the totals being:

Foreign Language: 5
Science: 6
Social Science: 6
Math: 4
English: 4

AP classes:

  • AP Language
  • AP Literature
  • AP Macroeconomics
  • AP Human Geography
  • AP Environmental Science

DE classes:

  • Western Civilization to 1600 (1000)
  • General Psychology (2012) I will be taking two more before graduation as well.

Standardized Testing:

SAT: 1860 (Old)
I took the SAT last year on a whim and received an 1860 (I know, bad for the school). I will be taking the November and December SATs, and the December ACT. I expect to score at least a 1350 on the SAT based on the practice tests that I have taken.

Extracurriculars:

  • Student Council (Member)
  • Science Olympiad (Member)
  • Academic Olympics (Captain)
  • Language and Culture Club (President and Founder)
  • Literature Club (President and Founder)
  • I volunteer at an after-school science club for kids at my local elementary school
  • I tutor for free at my school and at kid's houses in my neighborhood
  • I give free basketball lessons
  • I volunteer in my school library after school
  • I am looking into coaching youth basketball as well
  • I also founded a study group
  • I play basketball regulary
  • I collect sneakers
  • I greatly enjoy learning foreign languages

Etc:

  • I will be going to a meet and greet with alumni early November, if that is worth anything.
  • My counselor likes me greatly, so I expect a stellar recommendation.
  • I really love the school and I hope that I can convey that passion through my essay.

Final Notes:

If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate them. I have the opportunity of taking FLVS courses, so if you feel that I would benefit from taking any, it would be great if you say so. Thank you for reading this long post.

Yes, you have a chance. You should retake the standardized tests to raise your scores so you can get into Tulane’s 25%-75% range (30-33, 1340-1470 as of last year), or as close to it as possible. In addition, research the heck out of the school. Try to understand its emphasis on interdisciplinary education, its orientation toward international studies, and the intimate relationship it has with the city of New Orleans in terms of not only encouraging but requiring community service. If you are a science person, focus in on the life sciences and especially neuroscience, as well as the new engineering concentrations in electrical, mechanical, materials, and computational engineering. There are many other areas in which Tulane is particularly strong, so you should be aware of them and think about how taking advantage of them fits in with your interests and future. Best of luck to you!

I agree 100% with @NJDad68 . If you can get to 1350+ on the SAT retake, your chances would seem strong.

@NJDad68 @fallenchemist I really appreciate your guidance. I will get to studying and learning more about the school. I hope to be able to come back here in a few months and report an acceptance!
