You have a just decent statistics. I bet you will receive a number of acceptance letters. Good luck!
Thanks! Same to you
Hi! I think you are a highly competitive applicant and have very strong statistics and impressive EC’s. I was wondering if you are a first gen? Because that would greatly increase your chances to any of these colleges. Anyways, here are my predictions:
Yale SCEA - deferred then accepted
Harvard - reject
Princeton - reject
Columbia - waitlist
Duke - accept
Rice - accept
Vanderbilt - accept
Brown - waitlist
Dartmouth - waitlist
Northwestern - waitlist
Stanford - reject
UPenn - accept
USC - accept
Berkeley - accept
UCLA - accept
UCSD - accept
UC Irvine - accept
UCSB - accept
Best of luck! Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1940017-predict-my-results-cornell-umich-emory-usc-etc.html#latest
Unfortunately, I’m not. I am from my mom’s side but not my dad’s. Thanks for your input!
If you can stand Yale’s pretentious gothic architecture, you have a respectable chance. I would just be slightly worried about your test scores, but Yale being Yale, priding itself on its academics, your relatively high GPA, (although I dont see your coursework here) certainly paints a good image.
Thanks for commenting! I personally think Yale has the prettiest campus overall (but everyone is entitled to their own opinions!) Coursework-wise, I’ve taken as many honors and AP classes possible every year+I take one class more than most kids in my grade every year+I’ve taken summer classes to get ahead, so that’s why my GPA is so high. I just didn’t want to type every class out haha
Are you happy to go to a UC if you get rejected from all the private schools? Would you rather still go to a top East Coast private school that is not top 20 (rather than, say USCB or UCSD)? Have you looked at schools such as BC, Wake Forest, BU, UMiami or a top LAC such as Vassar or Wesleyan that has a strong English program?
Also, why are you not applying to Johns Hopkins, which has an awesome English Department? My nephew chose JHU to study English over a couple of Ivy League schools.
Since I’m going to have so many AP credits, I’m happy with a UC if that’s what ends up happening. I’d go for two/two and a half years and then hopefully go to grad school at one of the privates on my list. So for me, going to a UC is more efficient than going anywhere else. Also, UCLA and Berkeley have some of the top English programs in the country, and I’m hoping to at least get into one of them…my school has about forty kids accepted to both each year, and I’m Valedictorian.
Johns Hopkins was a school that I considered, but I didn’t overly like the surrounding area and had to limit my college list at some point! I’m applying to eighteen schools currently…if I have any extra time, I was planning on adding Williams or Amherst to my list for LAC’s. We’ll see what I get to! Hopefully, I won’t have to worry about this at all…if I get into Yale SCEA, I’m going
^ Sounds like a good plan. Good luck! Just make sure that you keep working on your RD school essays just in case that you get deferred by Yale.
Thank you! And I will, I’m already done with 14/18 of them!
^ Well done! Most kids do nothing for a month after they send in their EA/ED apps! Your parents will be happy if you can get your apps done early and give them a stress-free Christmas!
Thanks for stopping by my thread! As for you, I definitely think you’re a competitive applicant for these top schools. However, it is a crapshoot to a large extent even for people like you. I’d expect you to get into at least one of the ivies though (there was a ted talk about how it’s actually easier to get into one of many top schools than it used to be, despite the fact that it’s harder to get into one individual school).
Reach - Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford
Low Reach - Duke, Dartmouth, Penn, Columbia, Brown
Match - Rice, Vandy, Berkeley, Northwestern, USC, UCLA
Safety - UCSD, UCSB, UC Irvine
Your stats are extremely impressive. You bring everything there is to the table from test scores to extracurriculars and I’m guessing your essays are going to be really good. I think it’s safe to say you will make most of the schools on your list.
Thanks for replying! I watched the TED Talk after seeing your comment…I feel like he was mostly saying if one was to take advantage of Early Decision policies, it’s easier. Personally, I would have 100% done early decision to Yale, but they only offer early action, which gives only a little boost. Oh well!
Thanks!
WOW!!! Your everything is impressive. i think maybe the only thing a little weak is your test scores, and that’s only when compared to the rest of your qualifications, and only in some sections. You’re really lucky to be good at and actually like writing, I am actually dying with these essays.
I’d say you definitely have a higher-than-average chance at all of these schools.
Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford - you’ll probably only get into only one out of these schools- if any- just bc their acceptance rates are so low & there so many people applying who are just as qualified as you
Columbia- accept. you fall within their ranges for grades & such and they put a HUGE emphasis on community service, which, from looking at your EC’s, you’ve done a lot of
Upenn, Dartmouth, Brown- I’d say you’d probably get into at least one of these
Duke, Rice, Vanderbilt, Northwestern- Probably get into most of these if not all.
I know next to nothing about the UC schools, so I’m not even going to try with those, sorry!
Good luck!! Hope you get into Yale :~)
wow you’re impressive! i think you’ll get into all UC’s no problem, especially since your major isn’t that popular. i would also expect you to get in to at least 2 of the ivies on your list, if not more. as others have said, th eonly weakness i detect in your app so far is your slightly low ACT, but i think your excellent stats/EC’s make up for it. stanford is such a crapshoot for anyone so no guarantees there, but i am sure that you will have tons of choices to pick from in a few months!!! congrats!
@yalehopeful017 Which national poetry award did you receive? Receiving a prestigious one could be very helpful.
Thanks! I hope so too
It’s not extremely prestigious, but I’d prefer not to mention it just in case any student from my school runs across this thread. I’ve also been published multiple times in various literary magazines, which my teacher made sure to emphasize.
