What’s your recalculated GPA?
Normal classes are weighed out of 4, Honors are 4.5, and AP/IB/DE are out of 5. Add your new weighted GPA up together and divide by the total number of classes.
For example,
FIRST SEMESTER
AP European History - B
AP English Lang - A
AP Comp Sci - A
IB PreCalc - A
Honors Chemistry - A
Honors Spanish - B
Regular Government/Economics - A
That would be 4 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 4. Divide that number up by 7 and you get ~4.57, you get the idea, but just do it for all your classes and make sure you’re looking at your transcript while doing it.
If it’s around 4.4+ then you should be fine in terms of GPA. This year’s average was 4.45, but it’ll probably increase a bit next year.
Besides that, ACT is slightly below average (Average this year was 30 or 31).
EC’s look okay.
I don’t know how much they weight achievements, but there’s a rumor at my school that they skim over them and don’t give a crap if you’re an AP Scholar or whatever Honors certificate/stuff you got. I don’t know how hard it is to become a Questbridge scholar, but if it’s a difficult task it’d probably be regarded pretty well.
Course load looks a bit light. UF really values course rigor and GPA and even said on their website that they consider both factors to be an excellent indicator of college readiness, and thus place it at the highest importance level. Unless of course your school only offered 4 APs, then they might look over it.
What’s your senior schedule like? They don’t look at your grades but want to make sure you’re still challenging yourself with a lot of AP classes and whatnot.
You look like you have a decent shot, but don’t rely on it as a safety.
That is my recalculated GPA. My school doesn’t offer a bunch of AP’s. I was only allowed to take one my freshman year. My senior year classes will most likely be AP Calculus AB, AP Literature, AP Spanish, AP government, AP Macroeconomics, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble.
@msherondale Well, I don’t actually know how they accept kids who come from schools that don’t offer that many APs. All I know is that if a school offers a ton of AP classes, they tend to accept a ton, whereas they might only take the top students from a school that doesn’t offer as many even though their GPAs don’t fit the average criteria for that year.
I was talking to a girl here whose school only offered like 5-6 APs and she said that the top 5% got accepted even though the valedictorian probably only had a 4.3 GPA based on the information she gave me.
Try asking around your school, since it probably varies case by case. If some seniors with similar stats got in, you’d probably be okay. Idk, that’s how everyone at my school does it, we just ask around whenever the decisions come out and breathe a sigh of relief when our “stats twin” gets in.
