Chance Me!

Major: CS

GPA: I have a 3.8W GPA overall, but a very strong upward trend.
Freshman 3.2W
Sophmore 3.8W
Junior 4.3W
Senior ?

I have taken 10 honors courses and 1 AP and will be taking 4 AP’s and 1 honors senior year. Have taken honors Math and science every year.

SAT: 1300( 700 M 600 CR+W).
I’m pretty confident I can get it up to a 1350 and hope for around 1400.

EC’s: I don’t have too many EC’s except for sports and volunteering.

URM: I’m Hispanic if that helps at all.

Schools I’m interested in:
University of Maryland
Virginia Tech
Rutgers( In- State)
Penn State

Chances?

I think if you are able to get your SAT score around 1400, you will definitely be able to be competitive for those schools. Maybe in the first semester of your senior year you can join a couple of clubs that may relate to your major. Other than that, these are all matches for you. Maybe chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2006193-chance-me-please.html#latest

Do you have a 3.8 W out of 5.0? What’s your unweighted GPA?
Maryland is a match with your current SAT scores.
Virginia tech is a strong match (likely to get in)
Again, pretty good chance at Rutgers.
Penn State I believe you have a good chance of getting into the school but it might be a struggle to get into the University Park campus as an OOS student. I think you have a good chance of getting into one of the satellite campuses.
If you can raise your SAT to 1400 than these matches could easily become safeties. Good luck!

Yes to all. Although Penn state is hard to get in oos.

definitely want to try to raise the SAT, simply because engineering schools tend to be focused on scores. Being a URM and in-state for Rutgers does help; I think you’re in there. Virginia Tech and Penn State are probably high matches due to your scores. I don’t know much about Maryland CS so I can’t speak much about it, but I’m assuming it is like Penn State in terms of selectivity…

If you can boost your scores to 1400+, especially 1450-1480, you’ll be in at all of the schools!

Good luck!
