Hi,
I am a white female about to enter my senior year. Here are my interests with the specific majors I would apply to:
Carnegie Mellon (BCSA) (dream)
Northeastern (Computer Science and Digital Arts)
USC (Animation and Digital Arts)
UPenn (Digital Media Design)
Cornell (Computer Science)
Brown x RISD (dual degree CS and art)
NYU (Integrated Digital Media)
Syracuse (Computer Art and Animation)
RIT (3D Digital Design)
My stats:
SAT 1380
ACT 31 (going to take it again, shooting for a 33-34)
Will be taking SAT Bio and Math II, which will probably (hopefully) be 650-750
AP Psych 5; will be taking AP Calc AB and AP Physics C Mechanics this year (I have no idea how those will turn out)
GPA: unweighted 3.89, weighted 4.6
ECs and other notable things:
-coursework this upcoming year: AP calc, AP phys, H computer science, H art and technique of film (counts as an English class, so its analyzing film not making film), H photography major 3, H design and visual communications major 2
-very interested in photography – I have taken photography since freshman year. I have done volunteer and paid photography jobs, including running my own portrait business. I just came back from a photography program to morocco, learned about Moroccan culture and Islam, awarded “best abstract photo”. I won a gold key, silver key, and honorable mention from Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this past year (and will be entering more art this coming year)
-awarded Academic Excellence in Writing Award sophomore year (school specific) for analytical essay on Macbeth
-3 silver medals National French Exam
-went on French exchange during sophomore year
-curated and participated in town-wide student art show (sold 5 artists’ pieces at the show)
-participated in town-wide art studio exhibitions (shows mostly adults)
-have played softball since kindergarten (12 years) – played recreational league, club team, and then JV freshman and sophomore year (was JV captain as sophomore)
-took break from actually playing softball this year to coaching recreational league (5th-7th graders) (volunteer work), but hopefully I will play varsity next year (which won’t be on my application anyway)
-Hebrew school assistant teacher (3rd graders) (volunteer work)
-I’m planning on starting a 3D digital art and design club (mostly Adobe suite stuff like photoshop and illustrator) or a 3D printing club this year – leaning toward 3D printing because it will be more focused but which do you think would be better?
-I work weekly at my local cinema ($$)
specifically Computer science stuff – I took pc programming (learned scratch, python, html & css) as a sophomore, will be taking Honors Computer Science Principles this year, but that’s about it. there is a girl’s coding club at my school that i’ve never had the chance to attend – do you think it’s worth it to join at this point or will it just seem like I’m trying to put in an extra club at the last minute like some kids do?
Thanks!!
