I feel like I’m leaving out a lot… what other stats would help?
Also, some other questions. I am quite confused by the whole application process because there are just so many resources. Who can administer the CFA? Are there like testing sites? How long after I fill out the preliminary app will I get my application package in the mail? What can I do to increase my chances? What are the chances that I will receive a nomination in a big state like Massachusetts?
pls help

Hey there,

Although I can’t provide you with any reliable assessment of your chances because I am going through this process myself, I can help you by answering some of your questions. I’ve been working through the USNA application since early May, and have learned a lot about all the different components of the process.

First, the SAT or ACT you submit must include a writing / essay portion. The Academy simply won’t accept your scores if an essay was not included in the test.

Going to the CFA, this can be administered by your BGO* or physical education teacher. This is something you should coordinate with one of these people soon so that you have ample time to prepare.

In terms of other stats you could put on here, I would suggest you detail more of your volunteer and leadership experiences. The Naval Academy is very keen on candidates who demonstrate a commitment to developing themselves as leaders and using their skills to serve others.

That’s really all I can say for now really, other than that I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you in the Class of 2022! Go Navy!

*Your BGO is your Blue and Gold Officer, a sort of on-the-ground admissions liaison between you and the Academy. If you have not already, contact your area coordinator (found on the USNA website) to find out the name of the Officer assigned to your area. The BGO is extremely important to your application, so don’t hesitate in getting a hold of him or her as soon as possible.

Okay real talk, how do you have a 3.4 unweighted but a 4.7 weighted???

I don’t think USNA requires the SAT/ACT writing, it just considers it optional but recommended.

USNA does not require the writing portion, however you should take the writing portion since it is required by many other schools and you should have your back-up plans in place. Your SAT is very good. Your low un-weighted GPA looks odd but will be OK if you can explain it. Class rank is more important than GPA.

You are weak in your leadership roles. The team captain is good but you need more.

You will not get an application packet in the mail. Once you submit your preliminary application and you are deemed qualified to continue your portal will have the necessary information for you.

Your chances for a nomination are dependent on who else is applying. Massachusetts is not a big state, but being on the East coast it will have an above average number of applicants. Apply to all possible sources of a nomination: Senators, Representative, Vice Presidential, and Presidential (if qualified for it).

Since you are starting your senior year I want you to realize that you are already behind in your application if you are asking these questions. Get going on your nominations since some MOCs have October deadlines for applications. There are some candidates out there who already have LOAs in hand.
