  • are these EC’s and Awards good enough- I have 1 leadership position

Im not sure what I want to do in life- either engineering/math or some healthcare related job
- I like math, bio, chem

I have a super huge college list that I need narrowed .
chance me for these schools:

UC Berkely- Chemical Engineering
UCLA- Chemical Engineering- alt major is Math
UCSD- Biochem- alt major is Math
UCSB_ Chemical Engineering- alt major is Math
UCI- Biochem- alt major is Math
UCD- Chemical Engineering- alt major is Bio
UCSC- Math, alt major is Bio
SJSU- Biochem

top UCs are UCSB

other schools-
Georgia Tech- Chemical Engineering
Emory- Biochem
UT Austin- Chemical Engineering - I like cuz my cousin lives close by and also goes there
Rice- Bio
Alabama- Chemical Engineering- mainly cuz of scholarship
Vanderbilt- Math
Stanford- Chemical Engineering
Caltech- Chemical Engineering
USC- Biochem

  • out of all these non UC’s I will apply to only 2-4

Can u guys chance me please?- I know like all of these are like reaches so which non UC’s and non- Calstates should I apply to? I am trying to only apply like 10-12 colleges- and yes I can afford.

Help me narrow my list.
Also my family makes about 80k, so if you guys can help me about FA or scholarhsip plz.
PLEEEASE CHANCEE

I do not see why this is urgent. Don’t try to lure people in please. I just spent time reading this, because I thought you needed urgent help. You don’t. You can narrow your own list by realizing that your ACT composite is decent but not super high, and your UW grades are probably low for many schools on your list. Except for Alabama, I would say that most of the schools in your “other” school list are possibly out of reach, or very high reaches. If you are URM or hooked though, that might help. Compare your UW GPA and ACT score to those you find in the Common Data Set for the schools you are interested in.

As stated above most are high reaches but Alabama. Alabama is nice though. My cousin visited there and got full tuition there from Alabama. Chance me Back!

except for Alabama, every non- UC/CSU u have is a reach, so only apply to like 1 or 2 of those max.
for UCs based off ur UC GPA (4.06) :
UCB- reach
UCLA- reach
UCSD-low reach
UCSB- low reach
UCI- high match
UCD- high match
UCSC- match
SJSU- safety?

however ur 1460 SAT is really strong, as it is higher than the average for all the listed schools- so I think you can actually get into UCSC, UCD, UCI, and maybe UCSD and UCSB. UCLA and UCB are pretty hard.

U also are applying to engineeirng and impacted majors making it harder to get in as admission is more competitve.
For now focus on good essays, and if u really want, study and try to get 1500+ on SAT.

If you need other matchs or safeties, try Cal Poly Pomona, UC Riverside, SFSU, etc…

thx anyone else

Your EC’s are your weakness.
Do you have anything related to Chem EC’s?
Are you in Scouts? Do you work? Having a job is a good EC.

If all you did was study, and not step outside of your comfort zone, it might be tough.
Otherwise your grades and stats should be good.

You maybe could, your GPA and SAT are definitely strong enough to be admitted, and you’re instate which also helps a lot. If you like science a lot, then look for more opportunities in the science field. If it is super competitive, then you will be competing with kids who have research experience, so I recommend that you email some professors in a local university and inquire about labs that you can come in on. If there are any other clubs that are science related in your school, that will help a lot.

Im in Science Olympiad which i guess demonstrates my interest in science.
How do exactly get an EC related to ChemE?

UCSB’s Engineering Department is small and they are known for the Chemical Engineering program so it will be very competitive. You have strong SAT scores and your GPA is on target. I would say a High Match 50/50 due to a lack of EC’s. Make sure your personal insight essays are outstanding and best of luck.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%

how do i improve my EC’s?

  • Santa Barbara

  • Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores
  • Considered: Character/personal qualities, Class rank, Extracurricular activities, First generation college student, Level of applicant's interest, State residency, Talent/ability, Volunteer work, Work experience
  • Note: Eligibility established by high school GPA, course requirement, and SAT scores. Special consideration for disadvantaged students.

Volunteering or a job related to major can help.

if i volunteered in a hospital is that good?

Volunteering anywhere is fine.

Best of luck

guess imma volunteer now
is that good enough EC?

also i recalculated my GPA and i have-
UW- 3.75

W- 4.17

UC- 4.08

does this really change anything? my GPA was also better in junior year so does the improvement help me?

btw i did tutoring for free
but im gonna get tutoring job
so can i put tutoring as work experience, community service, and EC.
or just 1?

Georgia Tech- Reach
Emory- Reach/High Reach
UT Austin- Chemical Engineering - Reach/High Reach
Rice- High Reach
Alabama- Chemical Engineering- Match/High Match
Vanderbilt- Reach/High Reach
Stanford- High Reach
Caltech- High Reach
USC- Low Reach/ Reach

If you really are going to only apply to 2-3, i would choose Alabama, USC, and Emory.

how bout UMinn Twin Cities?
and also what is the chance of me (if i get in) getting decent aid from USC?
family makes like 80k

anyone^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Each college website should have a net price calculator (NPC), so run them on all schools of interest to get an estimate of costs and possible FA/Merit aid. For USC, apply early for the best chances at Merit aid.
