Personal statement - fairly good, very emotional and personal
hook - homeschooled K through 8th grade?
our foreign language program was terrible - I wasn’t enjoying myself or learning anything. I decided to instead take a different class (AP Art History) that fit my interests better and I would enjoy more. Resume wise, it probably wasn’t the best idea, but I have no regrets taking Art History instead because it’s so interesting
@sunsetfrog I did the same. I took 4 years then as a Senior I wanted to take some classes that would help me decide what I want to do in college so I took IR and AP Euro instead. Hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite me. Our language dept isn’t great either. I’m looking forward to a language in college.
I think it is unlikely that you will be accepted at an ulta-competitive college such as Middlebury, but you never know. The 35 and 36 on two ACT subjects are very strong, but the other ACT subject scores are weak and definitely hurt your chances. Your SATII scores, AP scores, # of AP classes, and ECs are run-of-the-mill for a college like Middlebury, nothing special. Schools like Middlebury typically look at unweighted GPAs in core classes, and you did not list that information – if your GPA in core academic classes (not string ensemble) is between 3.8 and 4, your GPA is fine and will not hurt you. I don’t think the homeschooling is a strong hook, because it doesn’t reflect a particular personal strength or personal accomplishment, but you never know. Maybe your musical skills would fill a particular need in their orchestra, which might help. Best of luck.
