background info: the main reason my gpa is this low is because of my math classes. I got C’s in them and that really pulled my gpa down. All my other classes are A’s and B’s. My gpa would be a 3.7 without my math classes.

Well, GPA is low, but you killed it with the SAT!
UT-Austin is a low reach. You’ll probably be offered provisional acceptance through GAP and be sent to UTSA for a semester. Don’t take it, you’re better off without it. If you get in, and you want to study business or engineering, make sure you get accepted into the major as a freshman. It’s virtually impossible to get into these schools as an undeclared major, and you will most likely be forced to transfer somewhere else.
Texas A&M is a match and top school
Illinois is a low reach
Michigan is a reach and likely to be a decline, but still a chance
Indiana is a match and their acceptance rate is 78%. It would be arguably a safety school.
All the other schools will most likely be a decline.

High reach for UMich due to weak GPA and from OOS. Test score is okay as it is within the mid 50 and above average applicants. They consider GPA as more important than test score.

If not for the GPA, you’d be set for many of these schools. That being said, you should likely get into Illinois, A&M, Indiana, UT Austin, and UW. Being out of state makes it exceptionally difficult to get into Ann Arbor and Virginia. And I’m sorry to say that a 3.5 is more than likely too low for schools like Stanford, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, USC, Carnegie Mellon, and NYU. Good luck.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what schools I should consider?

I would say you have a realistic shot for all but Princeton and Stanford. Not sure about Johns Hopkins, but you may have too low of a GPA for there too. CMU, UMich, Virginia, and Notre Dame are probably high reaches. Your SAT is higher than the average for nearly all the other schools I believe, and if you sell yourself well in your essays, they may look past your GPA. Definitely think you’re a competitive applicant for all but Princeton and Stanford though. But apply wherever you want, and don’t let people on this website discourage you. Not sure why people above are saying your GPA is too low for NYU when their average GPA for incoming freshman on their website is just a 3.6+… I guess it goes to show that people on here are not experts by any means!

@djm1999 Thank you for your input. Do you have any suggestions of colleges I should look into?

You should look into other public schools, especially the UCs and Wisconsin. Seeing as you are already applying to a handful of public schools, consider applying to fewer high reaches and more safeties. It would be far better to have a wide range of schools to choose from than banking on the low chance that you get into a top university.
