NEU is my dream school, and I’m super nervous about getting in. I’m currently a senior, so my GPA doesn’t include senior grades. Please be super rough so that I don’t get my hopes up lol
Stats: 1450 SAT, 3.77 GPA (UW), 4.12 (W)
APs: AP Stats (5), AP Spanish (4), AP Music Theory (4); I’m currently taking AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP Environmental Science, AP Lang, and AP Macroecon.
790 Math II SAT
I took 3 APs and one honors junior year, and I’m taking 5 APs this year.
Extracurriculars:
Varsity Track and Cross-Country
Leader in church youth group
Played piano from first grade until I was a sophomore (I passed the highest level possible on the certificate of merit exam)
School Piano Club President for 2 years
Working part-time in a coffee shop
President’s Award (I volunteered at a kid’s summer science camp for 100+ hours)
I’m an Asian female from CA which I think lowers my chances? But I’m not super sure. I’m also trying to decide whether to apply EA or ED. Thoughts? What does Northeastern look for?
If Northeastern is your dream school, I would definitely go for ED. If you wish to ED in another school, you can still do ED2 (by Jan. 1) for Northeastern. I would not suggest EA since a lot of applicants will be either deferred or denied - there is not really no point at all to accept EA rather than RD.
Northeastern, like other schools, look at what you have achieved compare to other students in your school. You might consider how many AP’s are there in total? And compare to what you have taken. And think about what kind of activities your school offers and the amount of leadership opportunities out there. Compare it to what you have done. That shows how competitive you are. And look at your essays - does that reflect who YOU really are. Generally speaking, they do tend to look at very competitive students amongst ED applicants.
Hope this helps…
P.S. I am super excited for you taking AP Environmental Science! Besides the exam, I sincerely wish you take out much more from that course in terms of our world, human species, and its surroundings.
While many do apply EA, it still shows interest in a way RD does not, which means a higher yield, something colleges do value. OP should absolutely apply EA if they do not apply ED.
