Chance me?

Hey guys, I’m applying to Peddie, Lawrenceville, Hun School of Princeton, and Cranbrook Schools. I am repeat a 9th grade female and a Full Pay boarding student who is multiracial and a US citizen, though I have lived abroad before. I also have connections to two of the schools (not going to say specifics, sorry). Any incite will be much appreciated.

SSAT: 85th percentile

Interviews:
Peddie: I think I did very well, I was confident, but not arrogant and kept eye contact. I answered the questions throughly and asked the interviewer questions back. I felt like I really connected with her. I also met the crew coached and LOVED her. We talked for a bit and I felt like we connected too.
Cranbrook: it was good, but felt a bit rushed by interviewer. I still kept eye contact and was relaxed, but we didn’t connect in that same level as I did at Peddie.
Lville: This coming week!
Hun: A bit later this month.

Essays:
I’m very proud of them. I have unique experiences and a couple of jokes to go along with some of the essays. I poured my heart and soul into the them and I think anyone who reads them will see my effort.

Grades:
English: B
History: A+
FLT: A-
Honors Geometry: B+
Honors Physics: B+
Honors Spanish 2: B
Business: A
Gym: A+
Current GPA: around 3.8 (W)
(Not great, but I tried my best!)

Previous 2 years have a mix of A+, A’s, A-‘s and the occasional B or B+ (Happy with that!).

Recs:
English: blind, I’m pretty sure it was great.
Math: blind, but I’m going to say it’s in the middle.
Personal rec: blind but I know it’s very, very good.
Principal: blind, in the quite good.
Parents: blind, but I’m pretty sure it was great, they are my parents after all lol. They are very honest people, so I’m not worried about them seeming biased.

Sports:
Crew 1yr almost 2yrs

ECs:
EMS 1yr (unique?)
Anti violence committee 1yr
Beautification club 2yrs (original?)
JV Debate 1yr
Newspaper 1yr

Awards/personal achievements:
Have many medals in crew, even from big-time competitions
Unique personal achievements in my articles, academics and crew which were thoroughly explained.

Now comes the hard part, chancing me! Please be honest and yes, I know none of you can accurately predict the outcome of the school’s decisions, but this certainly helps.

Was your SSAT graded to the grade to which you are applying ? If not, as a repeater, then have it regraded. This will result in a higher score.

As is, you look good for all schools but Lawrenceville.

Why not add St Andrew’s School in Delaware to the mix? They have a great crew program and a wonderfully diverse and inclusive culture. We were really impressed with the kids there.

@Publisher I did the grade I was applying for, so my score is what it is (and I’m quite pleased with it!). Also, why do I not look good for Lawrenceville, it’s a reach school for me (always has been), but I just want to know the specifics as to why (is it grades, ECs, etc.). Don’t worry I’m not gunning for you, I just want to know why.

@CaliMex I looked into St. Andrews and I liked everything (especially their crew team) except that I would have to use a whole new type of application instead of SAO where all my schools were located. So, I decided to not apply to St. Andrews. Looking back at that decision made in October I regret it, but i can’t do anything about the past except learn from it.

Is it really too late?

Well, I would have to start all the essays (which i don’t want rushed) for gateway and do profile stuff. I will also have to have all my teachers to restart recs (which took my teachers, especially English, a long time to write). I have to get my conselor to resubmit all my transcripts. I also have to book a tour and interview (Delaware is far from where I live so it would be a day trip). I must do all of this in less than a month, for deadlines are Jan 31st. Sure, this is possible, but I want to submit my best and I feel schools only deserve to have an applicants best. Unfortunately, I feel it is too late, leaving me with regret from not applying sooner. St. Andrews is a phenomenal school that I would’ve loved to attend, but I was foolish and didn’t decide to get off my rusty tusty and put some more effort into another schools application. Thank you for recommending it though! I hope if your kid (since you said how “we were really impressed with the kids there”) get into St. Andrews or an even better fit!

^@CaliMex

Just because Lawrenceville is ultra-competitive for admissions. But you are certainly a competitive applicant. And, if Lawrenceville is one of the two schools with which you have connections, then you should know better than any poster the likelihood of an offer of admission.

If I had to guess, I would guess that you have a connection with Cranbrook Schools…

@futurebskid My kid did all the boarding school interviews via Skype… so that shouldn’t deter you.

Last year, the SAS essay prompts were pretty easy/chill and aimed at getting to know you.

I don’t think it is that hard to mail a transcript or submit a recommendation to an additional school… Why not let the guidance counselor or teachers tell you that it is too hard instead of assuming they can’t?

Totally respect if you aren’t that interested in SAS, but your reasoning that it is simply too late is flawed

@Publisher thanks for the reply, and yes I fully understand the difficulty of getting an acceptance from Lville. Though, your guess for me having connections to Cranbrook is wrong, but it was a good guess.

@CaliMex well that’s really good that SAS has relaxed prompts, I thought it would be quite the opposite since it’s a top school. Though, the looming problem is still recs. Math rec, personal rec, principal rec, and transcripts shouldn’t be too much of an issue, though English is another story. My English teacher (I love him, he’s a great teacher) took for EVER to write my rec, it was an actual month. That’s my biggest worry, but if the prompts from SAS are similar or the same as SAO rec prompts then he can copy and paste I suppose. But, from you I am pretty sure I’m going to try and apply! I’ll talk to my teachers, counselor, etc. this coming Monday and try to see if they can get everything sorted. I guess I should try before assuming like you said lol. Thanks!
