I’m a junior from NOVA and JMU is my top school and I’m rather prematurely worried that I won’t be accepted. My GPA (W) is a 4.24 or (UW) a 3.92. I’ll have taken 8 APs by graduation and 8 honors classes. My PSAT score from sophomore year was a 1210 but I’ve been working on some SAT prep so my score should be improving substantially. I run long distance track or cross country year round and I’m not an amazing athlete but I should be a captain next year. I volunteer at a camp for young adults with special needs in the summer and I’m in NHS, Spanish honor society, and English honor society. I tutor other high school students through NHS. I’m planning on doing the 5-year elementary education program at JMU. Thoughts?
I would say good 95% chance of getting in.
Your good - keep up the good work and get that SAT over 1300 and you shouldn’t have a worry.
My son had like 4.27 and got in early action. He did have a 1480 SAT but I believe he would have gotten in based on GPA alone. Looks like borderline this year for Early Action was at the 3.8-3.9 weighted average. So I think with your 4.24 weighted you could get in early action even if you didn’t report SAT.
P.S. My son found it beneficial to do the online practice tests over and over for a few days leading up to the test - gets your speed up in answering and helped him improve his number dramatically. Keep doing the practice tests until they regularly score you high.
P.S. My wife was early elementary education at JMU - very highly respected program.
Thank you both! I will definitely take some practice tests, thanks for the tip!
