i mean you have the stats but you have 0 story and practically 0 ECs
OP has excellent stats. I don’t know about chances because I’m not an admissions officer, but I wouldn’t say active involvement in two academic activities, math and debate, are “practically 0 ECs.” Also, four years in a sport show the ability to work with a team, time management skills and involvement in the school community. And without seeing the essays you don’t know what story OP has.
For a school like Dartmouth, it’s more of a lottery than a competition. Your stats are as competitive as any other application, which unfortunately isn’t saying much. All you can do is apply and see what happens.
oh wow swim and math club ?? its not like 2000 other ED applicants have the exact same ECs and better because these are literally the most basic ECs anyone can have. at my school you can join the swim team by just asking, and yes it counts a varsity letter too
the stats are good, even great sure, but thats not what gets you into an ivy league. ok i don’t know his story but how possible good can it be when there is nothing here of substance besides his stats?
I hate chance threads but here is my $.02
4 years on the swim team. Were you recruited to swim?
Did you apply ED?
If you applied ED, you will know in approximately 2 weeks. there is nothing that anyone on CC says that will change the decision way or the other
@louwilliams chill out, not everyone who is admitted has built a particle accelerator. Considering you are both applying ED and your apps are already out, be supportive of one another instead of shooting people down over your own insecurities.
CC can be brutally honest but it’s not usually snarky and cruel, especially while not even being informed. Swim team at many schools is hardly a walk up sport and even if it was it still requires extensive time, training, and teamwork. Debate can range anywhere from a serious competitive academic endeavor to a screw around at lunch and “debate” random topics. You have no idea which applies here. While it’s true the OP didn’t tell his story and reveal his substance here there’s no reason to assume he doesn’t have any!
Chances at Dartmounth? Tiny-- just like everyone else. But no reason to be rude about it. Good luck! My husband is a Dartmouth alum and remembers his years there fondly. Ages ago though. He didn’t have your stats and definitely hadn’t built a particle accelerator, though he has since then
Some of y’all are being really harsh for people who do not understand the context of OP’s accomplishments. Only around 100-120 students/partnerships qualify to the TOC in the entire nation. In order to qualify one must place AT LEAST in the top 16 at national level tournaments(usually sponsored by prestigious colleges).Debaters across America pour thousands of dollars into the activity just to have a shot of qualifying. Keep you head up OP, I think you have a really good shot of getting in to Dartmouth.
