All these are either private or out of state. The one thing worse than getting rejected is getting accepted to a bunch of schools you can’t afford. For computer science, prestige doesn’t matter, because 99% of your education will be learned on the job. I would recommend focusing on UMass.

@coolguy40 If you head over to the UMass EA thread, you’ll see many high stat in state kids who were denied this year. I would definitely recommend @joebar apply, but he’ll need other colleges to send applications to so he doesn’t get shut out in the cold. Maybe throw an app in at Lowell as well.

“I am from Mass”

U.Mass Amherst is superb for computer science. I know many CS graduates from there, and the best of them are as strong as the MIT graduates that I know. Given that you are in-state, it would also be a bargain in addition to being a great school with a great CS program. Of course you are aware that there are a huge number of high tech companies in Massachusetts. Some of these offer internship opportunities to U.Mass students which would be a huge thing to have on your resume when you get to the point of graduating from university.

I also know CS graduates from some of the other schools on your list. The best of them are really good also. However, I don’t think that they have anything over U.Mass graduates.

I agree that a safety application to U.Mass Lowell would also be worthwhile. However, I think that your chances at U.Mass Amherst are quite good even in a very competitive major and I would choose it over Lowell if you can get in.

Thanks for the advice, and luckily I agreed with your assessment. I have already been accepted into UMass via Early Action, hence why I have taken a lot of reaches for regular decision. I’d love to go to UMass but these are some schools that also interested me.

Yes, I’ve already been accepted into Umass for comp sci and this is why I have sent to a lot of reach schools for regular decisions. I’d love to go to UMass but I was just interested in what you thought my chances were at these other schools. I’m aware most of them are low.

Thanks, I have already been accepted to Umass and that is why a lot of these schools are reaches.

@joebar congrats on the UMass acceptance! Great to have that in your pocket. Best of luck with the other acceptances. If you get accepted and they end up being affordable you’ll have some great choices. I think you have a decent shot, though I’m not super familiar with all those schools.
