Chance me?

Hello everyone.

Well, first of all, congratulations to all those who have been accepted to various colleges! I hope you all got into your top choice or something to that extent. All this immense amount of excitement for decisions coupled with fears of rejection creates a very stressful and chaotic state of emotions in many high school seniors.

Next year, at around this time, I too will be waiting on college decisions. JUst this past week, I went to visit colleges on my springbreak. I visited Middlebury College, Skidmore College, Hamilton College, Bard College, Vassar College, and Sarah Lawrence College, all of which were amazing. I'm filled with an intense eagerness to attend these schools, but honestly, I don't quite stack up to other competitive applicants...What do you think?

I live in Arizona, attend a small, college prep private school.

Masterwork (a unique program my school provides in which a senior student, if he/she wishes to do so, may create a senior project of sorts. This masterwork project is an integration of a student's personal passion and an accumulation of the things he/she has an interest in academically. I will create a 150-200 page graphic novel in which I design the characters and story, draw it out, so on.)

ECs:

Vice President of class in freshman year
President of class in sophomore year
Computer Science --> contributed to creation of school website
National Art Honor Society
Advanced Art and things
Took japanese language class in sophomore year outside of class
Study abroad in Tokyo my summer before senior year

Race: Caucasian

In Need of Fin Aid?: No

So...Not a stellar GPA. Not a wealth of ECs. But I personally think I've got the "individualistic hook." I can also write excellent essays, and my teacher recs/counselor recs will be good. So, what are my chances at the following schools?

Middlebury College
Skidmore College
Hamilton College
Bard College
Vassar College
Sarah Lawrence College
Reed College

What I'll say to you is that Chances threads are pretty much useless. You probably already know this, but what we say won't change what the admissions officers think. Other than that, I really think you should apply to where ever you want to go. You'll do well, I assure you! Good luck.

Thanks virtuoso

bump

bump, any other thoughts?

bump, please? id really like to hear your thoughts...

Safety/Matches all of them!

wow sars284, do you really think so? i thought it was more like this:

Middlebury College-reach
Skidmore College-safety
Hamilton College-match/slight reach
Bard College-safety
Vassar College-reach
Sarah Lawrence College-safety
Reed College-match

but thats just me. thanks for your input sars. any other opinions?

I agree with OniLawliet for the most part,
Vassar Id say is a semi-reach..maybe match?
Go for hamilton id say. and skidmore is more of a match as well, not a safety

I'm definetely applying to all of them, but I'm currently in the process of choosing which one to apply early to...Middlebury, Vassar, and Reed are my top 3 choices. I think if I applied early to Reed, and did an interview, I would have high chances of being accepted. Then I could take the 50/50 chance of applying ED to Vassar, which would demonstrate commitment and passion for the school in lieu of less then amazing ECs and the like. And no matter what, I think Middlebury will be my toughest application.

However, I'm reallly liking Vassar more and more every day...Damn, I really want to go there.

Any other thoughts?

Middlebury College - Match
Skidmore College - Match
Hamilton College - Match
Bard College - Safety
Vassar College - Reach
Sarah Lawrence College - Safety
Reed College - Match

Vassar likes a lot of leadership/extracurriculars, and although you are obviously really interested in Japanese and student government, Vassar is one of those types of schools that like a LOT of stuff.

Middlebury College-reach
Skidmore College-safety
Hamilton College-match
Bard College-safety
Vassar College-match
Sarah Lawrence College-safety
Reed College-match

Thank you for all your thoughts.

Any other opinions?

bump bump bump

bump bump bump

any other thoughts?

their all safety except middlebury which is a match

...really? lol, im not sure.

any other thoughts?

bump bump bump

bumpy, any other thoughts?

I think if I applied early to Reed, and did an interview, I would have high chances of being accepted. Then I could take the 50/50 chance of applying ED to Vassar, which would demonstrate commitment and passion for the school >>

By applying "early" to Reed, I'm assuming you mean you'd apply through their early decision process. If admitted ED at Reed, that would rule out applying through ED II at Vassar. Just want to clarify that.

I don't see any safe bets on your current list, and every list needs them. Bard and Skidmore might be reachy matches. But I would add some safer matches so you have plenty of great choices next year. Try: Beloit, Earlham, Lewis & Clark, Goucher, Bennington.
