Um, we don't weigh GPAs at all at our school. And we're able to get an "honors grade" so my gpa is around 4.0
But, I think without my honors grades, it would be about 3.7/3.8

consider schools that are more in your range. your SAT scores are just way to low for the schools you are considering.

USC would probably also be a rejection with those scores. You'd need to raise them significantly (at least 300 points) to even be 'in the running' at most of these schools.

Best of luck.

Yeah, those SAT scores... If you hit 2000 though (230+, which means around 70 more on each section), you have a MUCH better chance at some of these schools.

It looks like you don't like the ETS's tests very much. Maybe you'll do better on the ACT?

yeah i know my SAT scores are horrible. I'm looking to raise them quite a bit. I'm doing some hardcore studying in the summer and retaking them in October and November and possibly December. And I'm planning on taking ACTs too.

I'm thinking rpi and suny binghamton are my safetys. but even that i guess some of you think i'm aiming too high? well, i think rpi might be a shoo-in for me. just because I'm studying business, not engineering.

I think tests just don't like me very much. Like, I'm probably 35/400 for class rank (thats my guess).. and my scores don't seem to reflect that.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for replying!! It really means a lot as I'm sure you know, college admissions are less than fun.

I'm just confused as to why you chose the schools you chose. UChicago is an extremely academic school with nothing close to a business or marketing major, and I don't know enough about other schools' offerings, but it sounds like you'd be unhappy at a school like Stanford or Penn if you wanted to be a business/marketing major.

Besides RPI and SUNY, REJECT EVERYWHERE.
There is a 0% chance. You have a horrible SAT Score.

Okay thanks everyone for the feedback
and unalove, yeah I really don't know why I put UChicago on there, this is a really rough list and I guess I wasn't really thinking.

Er...at first I thought you said you were African-American...I was about to say that you'd have to raise your SAT score dramatically even as a URM. But, upon further notice, I realized you're Asian American. yeah....work on those SATs! :D

I'm not trying to discourage you from applying to any of the schools listed, but you probably need some match schools...you don't want to risk no acceptances come time in April. You should go research your schools and stop looking at "brand names". Check out some Common Data Sets and find a place where your GPA and SAT scores fall above the 50% range of all accepted applicants. You might be surprised to find that Stanford's average (including athletes, legacies, and URMs) is around 2150 and even RPI's is around 1900.

Cornell REJECT
UPenn REJECT
SUNY Binghamton IDK, probably
UChicago REJECT
Carnegie Mellon REJECT

Boston College REJECT
Emory REJECT

you need a dose of reality. you have a 1770, 600 sat IIs, and average ECs. The most frustrating thing is ppl posting to schools they know that they don't have a chance in hell at. There are tons of good schools that you can go to, why would you pick ones that you were well below the averages for? What state are you from? oh ya, you have a 3.7, which is a decent gpa, but have not broke a 3 on any of your AP tests, I can see a lot of grade inflation going on.

It's not grade inflation, because my school is actually really competitive
It's just that I can't take tests, and no, i'm not just saying that.
I did better than a lot of people in the course, but while they got 4's and 5's i did poorly.
my gpa is better than a whole bunch of people from my school, and my SATs continue to suffer.

I just don't know why. It's really frustrating.

Sorry for double post, but I'm really planning to raise my scores for SATs a lot. Some may say it's too late, but really, it's worth trying. Thanks for all the feedback. I really know what I need to work on now.. and I hope to get straight A's in all my APs this coming year to raise my GPA more.

What you hope and want you want are things that, in this case, are unlikely to come to pass.

By all means, keep your dream alive.

But you have ONE shot at the SATs before the ED round. And you need to raise your scores AT LEAST 400 points, which is doable theoretically, but if you really have trouble taking tests, then you probably won't be able to do it.

It seems like a case of too little too late. And the schools that you want are schools that could conceivably reject you even if you had a 2300.

Any college counselor worth their salt would tell you that you're overreaching. Keep one or two of the schools on your list right now and the CUNY and add a BUNCH more reasonable schools.

Otherwise, when April rolls around you may not even be going to A college much less a top one.

I know that I and the rest of the posters on this thread sound negative. But, in the long run, our advice may be saving you from a bunch of heartache in the future.

No, I asked for it and you told me the truth. I know I am overreaching and I know I need to be more reasonable. I am looking to rework my list. Thanks y'all for all your advice and such.

Yeah...there was a valedictorian with a 2200+ SAT score who had only applied to 8 Ivy schools I believe. In April, he had no acceptance letters, and he couldn't go to college for a year.

That's my warning.

I'm adding more matches and safeties to my list. And I know you guys are just telling me the truth.

Have any suggestions?

If you're in New York, check out SUNY Albany. A notoriously ugly campus, but a good school. SUNY Geneseo is also great, and it's more of a liberal arts-ish school.

Maybe also schools like University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Pittsburgh, Fordham, and Delaware.

Your unweighted gpa matches Emory's average. Bring up your SAT (a lot) and Emory could be a match
