Chance me~!~!~!

I am going to take the SAT for the last time in October. I am expecting around 2300 according to my current practice test results in Academy. By the way, I am a Korean (Internatoinal Student without residence)

Chance me!

Actually I don't really have like a clear 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on... choices. But just the characteristic of this college confidential website made me fill out those stuff like that. I also have AP Scholar of Distinction.. I forgot to put that up

You're an international student from China applying to MIT and Stanford. You are in the worst situation possible.

Unfortunately, you're probably going to be rejected everywhere except for UIUC and UMich. Admissions for internationals are disgustingly hard, especially for east asian countries.

Are you one of the best 200 seniors IN CHINA? If not, you're not getting MIT or Stanford.

Best luck, though.

Actually.. I am a Korean even though I am applying for universities in China. Besides I have a friend who has a worse stat than I do, he doesn't have the ISEF award, he took 4 APs, was not a school president, did not do as much service as I did, and he still did get into UMich, Duke, Berkeley, northewestern, cornell, johns hopkins, carnegie mellon (all of which he applied for engineering department). Thank you for your advice but I really can't see why you would say that.

Your ISEF award and school presidency are probably the only impressive things on your application, but they do make you stand out a bit.

But ses has a point about you being a chinese international. Statistically speaking, you have like less than 5% of getting into those schools.

Also, if you need financial aid, most of those schools are pretty much automatic rejects for you.

My prediction would be that you might get accepted or waitlisted at one of Stanford, MIT, Caltech, or Princeton. For the rest:

UIUC - match
Univ of Michigan Ann Arbor - match
UC Berkeley - reach
Cornell - low reach
Northwestern - match/low reach
Columbia FU Foundation - reach
Cooper Union - match

Thank you for your reply, but what does match, reach, low reach mean?

Match means your stats and such are right in the ballpark and you'll probably get in.

Reach means it's a stretch, but you could get in.

Low reach means it's a small stretch, but you've got a chance.

Oh I see. Thanks~

Please~~ More feed back people?

Also please consider my school's case. My school didn't offer classes for 3 of the AP exams that I took. No research advisor for my ISEF project(not available). No institutional help available for ISEF. No financial help for ISEF(total research cost was about 10 dollars). I heard that colleges read your application in context. My "context" is not so auspicious as those who attend prestigious high schools. So I thought these information might help..? I don't know haha;

how much aid do you need?

For now, I am sure I need some financial aid but I will probably apply for scholarships separately. Therefore, I am not going to be applying for any financial aid programms at the universities i am applying to

....bump~~

Does where you are from within the internatoinal pool really matter? The reason the chinese internatoinals are not admitted as much shouldn't really affect me. I thought all the internatoinal applicants are considered on the same basis without having any quata for certain countries. And again, I am a Korean which means when I am admitted, I will most likely be noted as a Korean in any of those statistics available to the public. As far as I know, most Koreans got admitted to Stanford this year among the internationals. BUMP~

well.. I was going to apply as a Korean international before i moved to the states, and I have to say that your GPA isn't very impressive;
here's what I have to say:

Stanford University - reach
Massachusetts Institute of Technology - reach
Caltech - reach
Princeton - reach
UIUC - low reach
Univ of Michigan Ann Arbor - match
UC Berkeley - reach
Cornell - high match
Northwestern - match
Columbia FU Foundation - high match
Cooper Union - safe match

good luck!

I mistyped my unweighted GPA. It is actually 3.9

That doesn't change anything.
