(10 chars)

cornell sometimes rejects people who are “overqualified”, someone i know had 98.x gpa with 23xx sat and tons of ap/sat II and got rejected to arts/science but went onto MIT

is cornell your first choice and are you considering applying ED? if not, i really think its a toss up. heck, if you apply RD cornell could reject you because they think you’re using them as a back-up in case you don’t get into harvard, yale, princeton, etc. all of this, of course, is assuming that your projections come true.

ED: Accepted
RD: 50%(Tufts syndrome)

I’m curious - if your school does not weigh AP grades, how can you have a weighted GPA?

idk maybe i’m wrong here but i wouldn’t put all that stuff on your application. i’ve found that at cornell most of the kids are pretty down to earth and not constantly adding stuff to their resumes. gotta have some time to do nothing productive. idk anyone that looks back fondly on future doctors of america club.

lol, u shud be aiming for harvard with those stats.

well there are things Cornell has that she might be looking for, such a bigger campus or the city of Ithaca. maybe a certain one of the schools at Cornell seems appealing. I know I had people telling me to “aim higher” than Cornell because of some of my scores but I told them no way and got in ED. :)

I do think you are extremely qualified. one way I can think of to get around what someone has called “Tufts syndrome” would be writing a really effective essay for whichever school within Cornell you want to apply to. keep up the good work and make sure enjoy the rest of your time in high school!

PS. when you say you have been captain/president of stuff and then list grades going back to 9 or 10, are you saying that you had those leadership in freshman year? I know it is possible in one or two activities, but I find it unlikely for all of those! just make sure to specify when you are actually applying.

no, i was just a member back then =P

oh, and im considering a lot of schools, each school for a different reason. i’ve visited cornell, and i do like the campus. plus my parents think that it’s a lot safer than other ivies, cuz it’s isolated, lol. plus i might think of becoming a doctor?

yeah its good to have leadership positions, but it makes you look like an obsessive freak if youre president of 4 clubs and VP of another…it will make it seem as if all you care about is padding your resume and getting into a top college…so i wouldnt put all of that stuff on your application, choose the important ones

You have good stats and a great resume. I suggest that you work on developing some killer personal statements, then your chances will increase even more.

However nowadays, your stats may be average for the typical HYPSMC applicant, who obsess about getting that perfect 2400. Plus, being Asian in this day and age NEVER helps. I suggest not mentioning it in your application at all, as it is optional.

lol but my name is pretty asian =P
