I am also applying to

NYU

Upenn

ehhh...i dunno....ur SAT is kinda on the low end....one SAT II....GPA is borderline....hoo knows...just throw it in there and see how it goes. Make sure you have safeties.....

I am taking 3 more sat II

GPA IS Just as of now ... its increasing trend too

I am retaking sats as well ...

My 2 cents.First-pat yourself on the back-you have worked hard..if your GPA 3.6 reflects the weighted value from your AP classes, along with your SAT I, and SAT II, you may feel NU is a reach statistically. The next question that comes to mind is that your list as it stands may also be considered reaches. With the large number of students applying next year, you would be well served to apply to schools where your stats put you in the top 3-5% of the accepted applicants-or-"safeties", so that at the end of the application process you have choices. G'Luck!

hi neil. it's gonna be a reach for northwestern and penn. just basing on somebody I know who applied this year with much higher gpa in similar hardest courseload, higher test scores, great ecs (but does not have the business awards like you have) and community service, plus national merit. waitlisted at northwestern, denied at penn. then again, I don't know about the essays. recs were outstanding though.

Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I think you stand a fair chance here. I was accepted this past March, and my SAT was only a 2110 (although 1470 M/V) and a 3.8ish UW GPA. The main thing I can tell you is bring up that GPA, if possible. Also, when looking at a top 15 school like Northwestern, you really should make sure your ECs are top notch, which is what I believe really helped me in the admissions process.

I would say you have about a 40%, maybe even 50% chance at Northwestern.

Best of Luck,

The Individual

Wait, 2150 is low for NU? Then whats average?

^ I think 2150 is pretty average for NU--it's not necessarily on the low end of the range, but definitely not at the high end either.

I think your GPA by itself would make NU a reach for you, as I have seen many others with even higher SAT scores get denied with GPA's of around 3.7-3.6 UW.

The average SAT for admitted students was 1468 on the 1600 point scale this year:

Acceptances up for 2012 - Campus

Apparently NU does not consider the Writing score. From the admissions website:

"Each year we receive applications from far more students than we can admit. Students admitted to Northwestern must be clearly capable of succeeding in the University's academic environment. The middle 50 percent of test scores for entering students ranges from 30 to 34 on the ACT; on the SAT Reasoning Test, the critical reading range was 670 to 750 and the math from 680 to 770. The most reliable predictor of success at Northwestern is a strong academic performance at the secondary school level. The mean high school class rank of enrolled freshmen has been at the 94th percentile."

I would agree that NU is a reach with your particular combination of SAT scores and GPA. Work to get your GPA and SAT's up. Consider taking the ACT. Put some safety schools on your list.
