Chance me?

I realize I have a thread in the What are my chances? forum going on, but I really like UChicago's eccentricity and about everything I find out about it and definitely applying their EA. So I would love it if you could chance me. =]

I was interested in majoring in econ, but I'm afraid that's an overrrepresented major considering UChicago's specialty in econ and might just go for IR or biochemistry instead (I'm stuck between humanities and science). Any help on a major for me based on my ECs? Thanks!

Your awards and ECs are pretty impressive, as is your employment and research by a university. I would normally advise you to raise your SATs, but I don't think they're important here seeing as how you've proven your abilities rather well in other ways. Write good essays. I think your chances are good, though not exceedingly.

thanks. =] do you think my gpa will hurt me? that's what i'm worried about the most

Unweighted is out of 4.0, right? If so, it's really not that big of a deal. Often enough, straight A students aren't the best students, and colleges like to see SOME imperfections on your record. You should be fine.

If you are offered a place to write your major down, I suggest you write in "undecided," as it's an honest appraisal of your thoughts on the matter at this time. Being undecided is a very good thing, as it also suggests that you'll benefit from the Core rather than seeing Core classes as extraneous to your intended major.

Thanks for the responses! Yeah, unweighted is out of 4.0. But I got 7 B's Junior year (semester grades) Over the year that would be like 3.5 Bs...But for soph and freshman year I got straight As. =[ So that scares me (downward trend). I

'm defn working on raising my SAT score and my ACT score (<-- I think I have a better chance there). Does UChicago discriminate between ACT and SAT? Because I think my ACT score will probably be higher.

Also, I couldn't figure out if UChicago does automatically defer like Georgetown does for EA or is there the possibility of rejection at the EA stage?

Thanks!

1) I can't imagine the admissions office cares if you send in ACT or SAT. Whichever comes out higher.

2) Chicago does reject some applicants EA, along with accepting some applicants and deferring others.
