I may have forgotten some stuff. If there is material that doesnt make sense it is because I am very tired. Can someone chance me on Boston University and Duke (extreme reach).

Will a huge improvement in my grades be helpful? Will my decent freshman and Sophmore grades hurt me a lot? Will lots of EC’s help (may show that I was very busy and may not have as much time as others to study for school)?

anyone wanna answer?

I think BU is a match. BC might be a bit of a reach because of your GPA. Duke is a pretty big reach.

You have a great chance at BU. BC is a bit of a reach, but that upward trend will help you. Duke is a huge reach, but you know that.

Definitely try to highlight that huge upward trend (maybe make your counselor mentions it in his/her rec).

by the way i meant to say 3.4 for sophmore year. and i was told by many people that writing a paper and discovering a new technique would help a lot cause most people dont do that. I will also receive a letter of recommendation from the head of the lab (he knows me really well and really likes my work). would making it to at least states in the science fair help a lot?

I like your intern position- you need to have a stellar senior year, but I would write about that work in the lab, submit a essay about it and what you did, submit the recommendation from the lab, BC really looks for something that makes you stand out so stress the importance of it. And BC seems to like musicians, and as a bonus, you are an athlete. Your testing is very good, so you are all set there. Good luck!

Dear footballkid : What a curious profile - from a freshman year “B” student to a junior year “A” student with good board scores and better AP scores. Identifying the catalyst for this change of heart might make for an incredible essay that answers the “Why BC?” question.

Your lab science experience and published papers will be a differentiator from the applicant pool - be sure to call attention to these factors. The international flavor of your volunteerism related to Asia will also play well.

There are two or three factors in your profile which catch interest beyond your freshman year grades. While you cannot fix what happened three years back, you have created different venues for success since that time. Your profile is compelling.

o and by the way i might be singing in carnegie hall with my school choir. that would help a lot right?

and what are my chances at BU

BU is a solid match, you have a pretty good chance of getting. BC is a bit of a reach like others have said. good news for you though, is that i had a huge upward trend in my GPA too and i made a point of it on my app and highlighted my change and the other things i did in HS that made me stand out and i was accepted early to BC (class of 2011). Duke is definetly a reach
