Chance me?

Hi, I am currently a high school senior. graduation 2009. I was wondering if someone could tell what my chances are of getting into UCLA.

CA resident - So. cal
Ethnicity: Caucasian

SAT: 2000. CR: 720, Math-640, Writing 640.
the first time I took it I got a 1990 and if I superscore both tests then I got a 2080
SAT II US history- 710 and i have yet to take math level 2.

GPA weighted: 4.3 unweighted: 3.78 ...

Rank: top 10%. but i read on the ucla website that ucla doesn't look at rank???

Classes I took in 10th grade: Honors english, ap european history, honors algebra 2, spanish 2, chemistry
Classes I took this year: Ap english language, Ap us history, honors pre-calc., physics, honors spanish 3.
Classes I'm taking next year: Ap literature, Ap economics, Ap government, Ap calculus, honors spanish 4, anatomy

The only classes I got B's in were Ap european history and english except this past semester I got an A- in Ap english language.

Extracurriculars-

awards- basketball awards, awards from teachers, etc.etc.

Essay: its gonna describe some challenges I had to face in the past couple years...not done yet.

Thank you very much I appreciate it.

Yes, it is true that UC's do not look at ranks.
I think you definitely have a good shot at it.
Try to aim for 31 on your ACT.. wish ya good luck~
Keep up the good work (try to avoid senioritis if you know what i mean hehe)!

You have a good chance. I had similar grades and same ACT score and I got in. But yeah if you're anything like me or my friends I don't see why you wouldn't get in.

Ok thanks guys.

melissaray:

UCLA: Slight Reach

ok. ty flopsy :)

oh, and does it look better to ucla if i take ap physics instead of anatomy this year?

yes take ap physics

Yeah definitely take AP Physics

ok thanks etti and kutibuh. how much of a difference do you think it will make if i take ap physics instead? i was really debating whether to take it or not because i thought i may be too overloaded with work.

the thing is...taking the extra ap will look much better than taking the easy way out, in the eyes of the admissions officers...it all comes down to whether you want to boost your chances or not

ok, i decided i'm going to take it. thanks etti for your input i really appreciate it.

Don't slack off in it though. Its one of those courses that people get rescinded for failing it.

np melissa, good luck in the course and on your apps!

imo, if you think it will be too much, don't. i had a very easy courseload senior year... 3 APs and three slack-off classes.

it's better to get 4 A's in four AP classes as to 3 A's and 2 B's in five AP classes (because you had to work harder)... so if you think you can take the courseload, go for it, but just know that your senior courseload is only a fraction of what adcoms consider in the process. if you are very strong in all other areas, you should be fine.

of course one more AP will strengthen your app, but take into account everything else

I agree with Jeyday - the AP Physics is not necessary. It may help, but looking at your schedule, all AP's is pretty insane for a senior year - even for a UCLA hopeful. I have a friend who got in without any science at all his senior year, and anatomy can be a cool class, whereas AP physics (at least at my school) can really bust your balls (or whatever). Don't kill yourself. Don't overextend yourself. Only take this class if you know you can handle all that AP.

^and be sure it won't mess up your GPA.

...i didn't have any science classes my senior year either

wait but i thought UCs don't see your senior year grades until if after you are accepted.

the don't see the grades you get but they DO see the classes (and therefore the rigor of your courseload) you take senior year.

Great Shot.

Good Luck!

Try to bring the 24 Science up specifically so your ACT is evened out
