Good enough stats for ND and you have the right type of volunteer work. Leadership or initiative within the volunteer opportunities would be preferred, if you have it and can highlight it.

Will you amplify other ECs as well? It does seem as if social justice volunteer work is a requirement, but a little variety in your ECs would be a plus: ND will look for more than just athletics and religious-based involvement.

Just the viewpoint of a parent whose legacy son was wait-listed a couple of years ago.

I really would not apply EA. You would actually be putting yourself at a lower chance of getting in. When I spoke with the admissions director for my region this summer, he told me that when they look at EA apps, they usually only take those who they are SURE would get in during the regular process. This means that they are in the top 1-3% of their class, and have test scores at the top of Notre Dame’s range.

If you apply RD, I really think you have a good shot!

It is really hard to say without a class rank and knowing how many students go from your school to ND every year. I would feel differently about your profile if you were at Strake in Houston than if you were at Brophy in AZ, and both are solid schools. It just makes a difference.

That being said, I don’t think I would apply EA. Your SAT is good, but your grades and classes concern me a bit. It is a good trend, but you are going up against some of the best. I think you want them to see this last semester worth of grades, I think that will help you. Yes, they will defer you if they think you are close, but I still don’t like to leave it to chance. If you want a good second opinion, however, ask admissions, they are happy to help.

I disagree that social justice work is a requirement, I am not sure the basis of that for archimom. It is helpful, but I know plenty of students at ND who didn’t have that. I also disagree that ND will look for more than athletics and religious-based involvement. They want to know that you were involved and didn’t just go to class and study. What you picked to be involved in isn’t as big of an issue.

I definitely think you have a shot RD, and I would lean toward that just because of the GPA. I think your test scores will help significantly. Also, being multiracial is something that should give a boost because it is a great asset and is one that ND needs dearly. For this reason, I still say contact admissions and ask about EA, they may disagree with me :). Good luck!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I switched my Early Action to Boston College after talking to counselors, friends, parents etc.

Oooo, BC just got SHUT DOWN. Good choice though. You don’t want to jeopardize the chances.

You don’t need to pick only one Early Action… you can do as many as you want.
