Goals:
Looking for USC, Northwestern, BU, Brown, Wash U, U of Miami, Case Western, and Rice/Baylor.

Thanks for looking and helping out!! By the way, if you would like to recommend additional schools that I should look into, I would smile upon such action.

pretty much zero unless you can blow up the hospital volunteering somehow. gpa is low too.

The gpa is fine.

the med experience is limited....

you weighted GPA seems kinda low...did you not take a lot of honors/aps 9-11th grade?

took 4 weighted last year in jr year and i took up 2 weighted in soph year.
weighted courses do not boost gpa in senior year.
GPA went from 4.0 in frosh --> 4.14 in soph --> 4.28 (1st semester jr) --> 4.429 (2nd semester jr)

Medical experience is limited (I agree) but I hope to get more hours later by the time I submit my application.

Question: When do you plan on applying? Because if you do like 3-4 hours a day for the next month or so, you could rack up a decent number of hours. Don't get me wrong, you should only do it to gain experience, but I doubt that you might not get a interview.

I am apply regular decision for most of my schools except for Brown's PLME (ED) Most of the schools are due around December 1 or January 1. By that time, I hope to get at least 100 hours.

Thanks for helping guys! I appreciate the feedback.

As for ranking, we have a class size of 900 seniors (around that) and I know that I am in the top 10%.

I don't see any evidence that you know what you're getting yourself into. If I were a med school, I'd probably just advise you to go through the normal route and apply again after 4 years.

Well, I know that the lacking medical experience would affect my application...would you say that I still have good chances at USC (since they look at the whole person and not necessarily medical experiences) Thanks!

why is it that every time i open up one of these posts, i always see a laundry list?
gahhhh...

you have a chance- GPA is not THAT low, it's decent.

At face value, your GPA both W and UW, and your test scores (SAT, ACT, SAT II, AP) are all at the bottom tier at the schools that you are applying to.

This specially applies to Wash U, Rice/Baylor, Brown, Northwestern, Case Western, USC.

Most programs are going to demand a near perfect UW GPA, and higher test scores.

On the other hand, your EC's look stellar, and well rounded. Which, can be a plus at USC, but a negative at places like Wash U, Case Western, Rice who have a strong preference for medical ec's like shadowing and research.

Depending on the strength of your high school's other applicants, and your state, I would make these recommendations:

If you are near the top of your class, I would encourage you to consider other top undergrad institutions who would like individuals of your well rounded nature.

If your state has an instate med program, then apply there as most times these programs are easier to gain admission from.

But, most of all, I would strongly encourage you to keep your options open. Guaranteed med program or not, undergrad is a long and arduous process. While being in a program can ease some of this stress, I will assure you that it has some disadvantages. For one, only needing a certain GPA limits one's potential. As many have said on this board, MD programs do really limit one's potential, but they can be nice to ease some of the stress.

If you go to a regular undergrad program, it no way limits your chances to medical school. On some occasions, it can actually raise your chances.

Write really good essays! And continue your medical ecs. If you know you want to be a doctor then you will be a doctor if you persevere. This is just one way to get there. Keep your head up, be strong, apply. If you don't get a spot now it is not the end. You will be even more focused on your goal for the next round.

Thanks everybody for the advice!! I am really grateful for the helped that I received. Will post the decisions eventually lol.
