So are you saying they wrote the essays for you or edited them? Haha sorry if I’m not understanding what you’re saying.

I’m not a qualified “chancer” but your activities that promote peace sound amazing

Uh, why are you planning on applying to Yale even if you get into Columbia ED?
Your whole post sounds fishy to me. Your activities sound great, but I think you have the wrong attitude–which could hurt you with interviews and essays.

Also, 2080 to 2300 is a HUGE score jump, and I strongly doubt that it is realistic.

Warning: ■■■■■ present…

hm hmm no no i take all advice to heart you may be right about the attitude look beyond but no trust me man the 2080 was like a month’s worth of work I can do WAYY better and I have all summer to work hard I have a couple of 2400 books that are really gonna help me hit that score and for the essay thing i am not using their essays but only as references so I know what succesful college essays look like so mine should be pretty good one of them is from an applicant who got waitlisted at harvard with a 1930 so he’s a really good writer.

But thanks for the advice guys keep it comin’

are ya serious? your test scores are too low.

I think that even if you get your test scores to where you want them, your GPA will still drastically hinder your chances.

those are huge reaches for you

so are you saying others wrote your essays?

“hm hmm no no i take all advice to heart you may be right about the attitude look beyond but no trust me man the 2080 was like a month’s worth of work I can do WAYY better and I have all summer to work hard I have a couple of 2400 books that are really gonna help me hit that score and for the essay thing i am not using their essays but only as references so I know what succesful college essays look like so mine should be pretty good one of them is from an applicant who got waitlisted at harvard with a 1930 so he’s a really good writer.”

You should hope that Yale likes run-on sentences.

i rescind my second post

I really don’t think they are huge reaches for me and @ eating food my guidance counselor that’s pretty much my 1 weakness but we have no rank at my school its like an academy and all the classes i’ve taken have been honors since the beginning of high school but yea I still think you’re right I just hope they see the improvement rather than focus on freshman and sophomore years. The thing is during freshman year my mom had a tumor after giving birth to my younger sister and sophomore year my dad was diagnosed with diabetes. Also i transitioned to a secular high school coming from a very strictly islam based middle school so the transition wasn’t at all easy for me.

You asked us to chance you, so who are you to say that these schools aren’t huge reaches for you?

They are most certainly reaches. Your GPA, as eating food said, will definitely hurt your chances at these/other top schools. And your SAT score as of now is very low… you can shoot for a 2300 but until you get that score you have a 2080.

alright alright i totally understand where you guys are coming from and i know my freaking gpa is such trash but do you guys think that junior year with a 3.9+ and a strong first semester senior year (Straight A’s) will sway their decision because i think im well rounded but its just the first 2 years of high school that killed me

The Ivies can not be reasonably considered anything but high reaches for a non-hooked applicant with a sub 2100 SAT score and a 3.66 GPA.

FYI, just because you have “examples” of what good essays sound like doesn’t mean you’re going to write a good essay yourself. Any old fool can walk into Barnes & Noble and buy the “100 College Application Essays That Worked” book. And yet 93% of them still get rejected from Yale.

lol you guys i know i know the chances are against me but i’ve really turned it around in terms of grades and my hook i guess is that im the first one of my siblings to go to college my two older step sisters were high school drop outs and my dad divorced my step mom so im the first one going from them all. Also idk if my race is gonna help me but it’s Caucasian (arabic). You guys need to trust me when I say I am going to bring the sat score up because I worked hard to get to the 2080 and I didn’t really care about that score because I know I am going to still work wayyy harder and earn something close to a 24

Dont listen to anyone else here, you have a good chance. Trust me.
I knew someone very similar to you from the Chicago area and he is also Palestinian and he did very similar work to yours and got into Harvard with a 31.
Inshallah you get in, just have the right niyya.

increasing grades over soph->senior year is a good thing that i can spot, but you need to reconsider your own attitude (for your essay). you asked people to chance you, so you should at least think about listening to them instead of trying to fiercely defend yourself with run-on sentences. you can hope all you want for a 2300, but it’s not exactly going to get you anywhere from where you currently stand, a 2080. don’t be delusional, or it’s going to be december with the same SAT score before you know it. i made the same mistake. you need to be able to face reality a bit more instead of trying to convince others that you’ll be good enough in the future. good luck with your SATs, and i really hope you don’t use those essays that were given to you.

I am not using the essays, only as a reference for the 1000th time lol i only have 4 nd ther all from kids that got into good schools. Nobody in their right mind would send an admissions office the same essays I am just looking at them to see where they came from etc
