gpa is low but other than that your resume is strong

Yeah, I agree with mpball28. Your GPA is low by USC’s standards, but everything else looks good. However, if your school is as good as you say, then your GPA might be ok. See if you can find out if other people from your school have applied to USC in the past and gotten accepted and find out their GPAs. If your GPA is close, then you should be good.

It’s my impression that USC understands that GPA’s mean different things coming from different high schools. If you come from a tough school with very high average SAT’s and AP scores that sends lots and lots of kids (beyond the top 10%) to excellent colleges, and assuming that the school doesn’t have major grade inflation so your GPA doesn’t put you near the bottom of the class, you’re not at all in bad shape GPA-wise. Not to mention the three years of EC science research!

A school of the kind you describe is going to keep very good records of past students’ successes and failures in college admissions. Take a look at the charts your GC has for USC applicants from your school. If there is a scattergram for the last year or two, see where you fall among the dots. Assuming your hs has had a number of students applying to USC, your GC should be able to give you very good feedback on where you stand.
