Chance ME!!!!!

Okay,
So I have wanted to go to UT since the day I was born. Both my parents, as well as my aunt and uncle have attended. My parents are both alumni members. I lived in Houston, TX until right before high school started (moved in 8th grade) to New Mexico, so now I am out of state :(. My stats aren't the best, but very decent.
GPA: UW ~3.2, have taken ALL available PreAP/AP classes, but school doesn't rank. So I'm top ~30%. SAT: Reading: 670, Math: 570, Writing: 640 (retaking hoping to get my math up to par with my other two scores) I did not study for 1 second or take any review classes, just woke up and took it, I'm reviewing some math for the retake. (I did really poorly on the ACT, so I'm just giving that up)
Extra Curriculars: Some community service (not sure on the exact hours, but maybe 100 hours a year)
President of my Synagogue's youth group (I am improving it A LOT)
play in a rock band (guitar, bass, sing)
Build Computers for people (small "business")
On the Board of a small film directory company (have not really done any work yet though, but I should be starting soon).

Other stuff about me:
Caucasian, pretty good at writing essays, so I think I will do well on those, DIE HARD LONGHORN FAN!!!!!!! I also went lobbying in DC the summer before my junior year with a group of people my age, which I already wrote an essay about recently and plan on using (got the same grade as my friend who got in to the USAF with his, [~90] if that means anything), love classic rock, cars, computers, college football, and lots of random things.
SO, How are my chances? TEXAS will for sure be my #1 choice. Also I am pretty sure I will be the only person from my school applying (~450 graduating class), and probably from my city or surrounding area (~100k people, ~200k metro), since most people stay in state.
Thanks a lot for the help, :D.

What are you intending to major in?

^ history or pol sci, but i am FAR from sure, would i have a higher chance putting one of those are undeclared?

Bump!!! Also I’m class of 2010, I forgot to mention that.

sgdude, your rank and test scores are not helping you. Try to get a higher test score, write killer essays, put together the best app you can, and give it a shot! Out of staters are hard to guess because the admissions seem to be a bit more capricious (at least they were last year ;)).

Good Luck!

^Yeah, I am retaking my SAT in 2 weeks so we shall see. According to what I found on the web, my SAT is higher than the average at UT, but yeah being OOS and not being ranked high or having great grades does hurt me. I did get accepted to LSU and ASU already, but yeah UT is much more competitive, :/.

You sound fun. Don’t give up. Hope for better SAT’s. Since you’re OOS, rank may not be a consideration.
Also-straight from an AdCom member: Do the optional resume.

I suggest you apply for UTSA and then see if you can transfer into UT Austin

yeah, ill do all the optional stuff I can. And I cant do UTSA->UT simply because my mom said there is no way in hell she will pay for me to go to a satellite campus, so that is not an option. Do you think I should put undecided major or something like that for a higher chance of getting in? Since I really AM undecided, though I like history/pol sci, i have no idea if I want a job in that field. I would like the best shot at getting in. Also, UT waives the OOS fee if you get $1000 or more in scholarships. Provided I get in, what chance do I have of getting a $1000 scholarship?
Thanks.

These are guesstimates.

<1% chance at $1000 scholarship.
<10% chance at acceptance.

Average SAT score for OOS is 1313, you have a 1240.

Going to a community college and transferring will give you a much better chance.

^It’s just that my parents will not pay for community college, so I can’t really go that route. I would assume though that if it is easy to transfer from a community college that it is also easy to transfer from a 4 year (out of state) University?
