Chance me!

Gpa: weighted: 3.79
unweighted: 3.25

Rank: 260/782 (33%)

SAT: CR: 510
MATH: 560
WRITING: 530
COMPOSITE: 1600

Special Circumstances:
Due to having diabetes from an early age (13)
and not realizing the symptoms, I had both
arms amputated when I was 15 years old.
This affected me severely in high school,
emotionally and academically (administration
helped my situation somewhat but otherwise
my parents helped me through the last half of
school)

THANKS!
btw: ut is my top choice and only choice! (well maybe a&m or tech if I have to..)

Pretty low. You’re not top 10% nor have spectacular SATs.

What major(s) are you looking at?

Biomedical Engineering… :frowning:
Very stupid of me but I’m thinking of just going to Tech…

Yeah sorry, I don’t see it happening either, just to be realistic. Cockrell is just way too competitive, although you do have an interesting hook to your essays with your circumstances, and you definitely show determination despite your medical challenges. I’d say apply, just so you don’t kick yourself for not doing it later, and maybe look at a second choice major in another college (COLA, etc.) that might be more likely for you to get into and then maybe transferring to BME later. Are you taking the SAT again to try to raise your scores, or any SAT II subject tests or ACT?

Personally, I’m very impressed you were able to maintain above a 3.0 in light of everything you’ve been through, and it doesn’t look like you fell too behind in your schoolwork after your amputation - that’s very commendable in my book, and wherever you end up, the school is lucky to have you. Don’t give up - who knows, maybe there’s more of a chance than we know for UT, and regardless, I’m sure the right school and program for you will present themselves.

Thanks, I think i was just way to optimistic with my special circumstances.
But anyway, you’re right, there is a good school waiting for me somewhere :D

Hey optimism can pay off - just be sure to balance it with a healthy dose of reality. What’s that saying, expect the worst but hope for the best? =) Best of luck to you wherever you decide to apply!
