GPA could be higher. Gender and hometown are also important factors.

female in NJ

Im applying there and am in a very similar position

weighted GPA= 3.25
SATs= 1940

As I’ve heard, we would be in the middle 50% of applicants, but of course it depends on ECs and intended major too.

I got a big letter few days ago.
GPA: 3.47
ACT: 24
SAT I: about 1600

Two recommendations (one from AP Economy, another from AP Calculus)
4 years of varsity teams, including vice captain and captain experience

I submitted my application 10/31.

I hope it is very helpful for you guys.

I took 2 APs last year, and take 2 APs this year. Oh, and my major is management, and interested in Pre-law course.

wow! you already heard! congratz! I thought we weren’t going to hear until mid - January. are you instate? ahh i hope i get in

in-state? did you apply for honors or anything? surprised to hear of a decision already…

congrats!

I thought the decisions would come Jan. 15th. When you wrote “about 1600”…how close to perfect was it (I am assuming that was out of 1600), and usually the ACT corresponds better than that. Was one of your ACT subjects a lot lower than you’d expect?

nope, i really got poor result on SAT at that time; it was about 1050/1600. I think my essay and recommendations affect a lot on my decision.

oh yeah, im not in-state btw

So, just to clarify. Your essays and recs are good, your SAT was 1050, your ACT was 24 you are OOS, and you already heard you have been accepted?

onlystraight is lying.

Acceptance notifications don’t come out until mid-January.

^ nice try onlystraight… keep working on that ACT

wanna bet? i can upload picture of acceptance if you want - -

onlystraight, we are just wondering because the test scores are at the lower end; gpa seems okay…but mostly because you are hearing more than a month earlier than they say they will notify.
Don’t give your identity away by taking a picture of the letter…but I wonder, are you a recruited athlete, or musician etc? It just seems that if it is this early that perhaps a coach was recruiting you…

I know that I heard it way earlier than others. I couldn’t believe when I got the mail from JMU at that time.
I’d played for varsity basketball and varsity soccer team, and I was nominated as vice captain and captain. I think I forgot to mention that I got several awards from soccer tournaments and honor rolls. I was also in computer club, MUN, student government and many other clubs as well. I think that those extra activities affect a lot on my application. I just don’t want you guys worried about your application; that’s why I post my gpa and scores.

Conclusion: So don’t worry about your application lol

I apologize for doubting you, but you have to understand why the skepticism… DS has Eagle Scout, great recs and ecs, 34ACT and we’ve heard nothing, so the 24ACT think is a bit puzzling.

I guess congrats are in order…

onlystraight…perhaps an odd question, but are you a freshman at JMU now? Your paragraph above describing your activities is in the past tense…

I mean if you are a senior in high school now I would assume you would have used present tense…I play varsity bb, I am in MUN etc.

Are you posting to give encouragement based on your experience last year, or are you truly getting early news for fall 2010?

I’m in senior of high school right now. The reason why I use past tense is I played varsity basketball in freshmen and sophomore year, and played varsity basketball in sophomore, junior, and senior year. Moreover, my soccer season ended like 2 months ago. I was in computer club for 3 years, i decide not to join this year. For student government, I was not nominated for president election, so I decide not to join it as representative. Sorry for confusion. I hope you guys will get the good result very soon.

I was told by the woman on the phone that “decisions are behind lock and key” until they are sent out in a mass mailing in January and April.

onlystraight isn’t for real.

BTW, they have really awesome accents there…
