Anything else? Thanks so much, honest opinions please (=

Dear yellowbird : Outstanding qualifications across the board. Certainly, you would be a fine addition to the Boston College academic community based on this profile. Please note our post in your other thread regarding NROTC participation. That seems to be a huge decision point for you at this point and our recommendation is to do some serious soul searching on that subject.

I was just deferred from Duke Early Decision (the reason i didn’t apply EA to BC), so BC is now higher up on my list, as it was my second choice after Duke! The NROTC thing is fine with me, i am the type of person to get what i want, and if getting up at 530 a few times a week gives me the opportunity to go to the school i want to go to, its not a big deal to me. (sorry if that came off as snide or rude, it wasn’t meant to be :P) I’m hoping i have a shot at BC, i really am still puzzling over my deferral at duke, and hoping i dont get a negative response from BC as well.

hey yellowbird,
I’m new to all of this, but I think you have a really good chance at getting in. Good luck! :)

I would be very surprised if you don’t get admitted to BC.

Best of luck!

Scottj, thanks so much for giving me the info about ROTC, thought i would come back and thank you about that, it gave me a lot to think about, and while i still plan on attending BC if i get in, i doubt heavily that i will be part of the ROTC division.

Yellowbird:

I hope BC works out for you. But since you asked for “honest opinions” I thought I’d throw out mine. While your ACT is great, your AP scores are not-as hot, particularly since you attend a “very competitive” school. (“Very competitive” schools tend to yield high testers, on subject tests and on AP tests.) Indeed, your AP scores are probably what got you deferred at Duke.

Since its too late to add subject tests, I would suggest you send each college a ‘Why College’ essay (if you didn’t already for Durham) to show the adcoms your fit for thier august institution. Unfortunately, your RD compeition is plenty of 3.7s at competitive schools that have 4’s and 5’s on their AP records (or 700+s in subject tests).

Good luck.

Thanks for your opinion, and yes, i agree my testing in biology and history are not hot. My school is very competitive in my area in Florida, but i do not live in Miami, Tampa or Orlando, and live in a place where education is not so hot, a big fish in a small pond one might say. I did send Duke a “why Duke” essay, and intend to send a letter closer to decision time. Your response gives me an idea as to why i was deferred at duke, but isn’t clear as to whether I have a good shot at BC or if my AP scores will hurt me too much there as well.
Thanks.

^^Yes, and yes. I think your scores will hurt you slightly but I also think you have a good shot since the rest of the app appears very strong.

Thank you.
