Hi folks, I'm really interested in applying RD to Moho. I have a 3.5 GPA with a mix of honors/AP/non-honors courses. My interest in International Relations and Moho has an amazing IR program. I do not plan to submit my test scores, but have solid EC's: NHS, MUN, played Varsity Tennis, Karate. Importantly, I am working on this project where I have been collecting artwork from children living in impoverished and war-torn areas across the world. So far, I have over hundreds of drawings and plan to publish them in a book. Further, I started a book drive called 'Books for Vietnam' and basically, I have collected over a hundred books from a local elementary school. I plan to send them to a non-profit organization that runs a book program in Vietnam where they distribute ESL and American books to Vietnamese children as Vietnamese children are learning English in the younger grades. With all of that said, how do my chances look for MHC? I have already done a tour and interviewed with a student earlier this month (it went very well!). Will I get financial aid or even a scholarship because I am a first generation Viet. student who comes from a refugee family?

Your GPA is a bit below their average of 3.67, but I think your EC’s offset that. I can’t help but wonder what your test scores are, or if you took them. Although test scores are optional at Moho, decent test scores would make you more desireable. FA at Moho leans more to need based rather than non-need based merit aid (roughly 60% versus 8%) so it will depend more on your financial situation than anything else. Good luck!

Thanks! Would you say I have a solid chance of being admitted?

What’s your class rank and how do you feel about your essay(s)? Those two items are very important factors for MoHo.

I’m not sure what my class rank is as school does not rank, however, my essays are pretty solid and my teacher rec’s are good too.

That’s too bad about the class rank. That and decent test scores could move you from a probable to a definite.

For the heck of it, here are their mid 50th percentiles for tests:

SAT CR (620-720), M (590-700), W (625-700)
ACT COMP (27-31)

Again, good luck!

Bluecrayon

Don’t let the SAT/ACT scores scare you. They’re derived from the 77% of students who submitted their results.
The 23% of the students who chose not to have their SAT/ACT scores considered are not part of the mid averages. Your gpa is fine. About 52% of the women attending MHC have a gpa equal to or lower than yours. At least 33% of enrolled women have a gpa lower to much lower that yours.

The fact you’re a first generation college student is a plus. Some would even say a big plus.

MHC is an amazing school. Good luck!!

My school does not rank and I still got accepted no problem. I do not doubt it does not help but if your school does not rank I do not think it can kill you or really affect your chances of getting in.
