kmcrindle: Wondering if you might consider starting a thread addressing things Michigan freshman parents/kids should know. For example, setting up bank accounts, health insurance issues etc. Necessities to bring and what not to bring…You are such a valuable resources to this site. There is a good thread on Parents Forum…but I think your Michigan experience is key. Thanks in advance!!

My school does not rank, but I think you are right because I don’t think I would be in the top 10-15% to be honest but I couldn’t tell you. I think it’s all about the competition at certain schools that make it hard for qualified students to get accepted.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, because by rights given the program you sound like you should be a strong admit. Maybe ask your guidance counselor if there’s anything he or she can do to tip your odds, eg, send a note explaining that the competition is fierce at your program and that you’d be a strong admit, etc. Just a thought.

And little falls, I seem to respond to specific questions better b/c I can just whip them on the fly but if I get a chance to give it some thought I will do…

Thanks for the support/advice! My counselor is actually friends with our regional lady or whatever, and I’m on the ‘special list’ of Michigan being my top choice, so she put a very good word out for me. I also improved my test score and got a good GPA, sent a letter of intent and an extra recommendation letter. I’m not so worried anymore just because even my slightly pessimistic counselor said she thought I would be fine.
