So, here's my stuff:
SAT: 560 M, 700 R, 650 W (Yes, it's low, but it was my first time taking the test, and at the beginning of sophomore year, without studying. I can easily get high 700's now for reading and writing, and hit about 700 in math in practice tests.) However, pretend that these are my scores, just in case.
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.8 UW/ 4.5 W
Rank: 2/388
Curriculum: Most Rigorous
EC's: Key Club, French Club, NHS, Student Council, Academic Bowl-Captain, Working at McDonald's, and ~300 hours of Community Service. I also make stained glass and play piano(12 years). I know I don't have much leadership, but I've been busy taking care of my ill mother during my junior year, so other things come second to that.
Recommendations: Will be fantastic, my calc teacher thinks I'm a genius, and my other teacher adores me.
Hookishness: 1/2 Native American; First Gen; Low Income, might apply through Questbridge.
I'll probably apply ED and for biology.

First off, your hooks will only help to raise your chances at acceptance. Questbridge is an excellent corporation through which to apply. Your ECs seem to be a tad missing, but you have a relevant reason as to why. That reason, about your mother, which I am truly sorry to hear, could certainly serve as a topic of a rather intriguing essays. Excellent essays and excellent recs will certainly help, but I believe in order to have a solid chance your SAT I scores need to be improved and you need to score well on some SAT II tests as well. Hope I could help.

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/934274-do-i-have-chance.html

This is what I LOVE about College Confidential. You have no idea what your chances are, so you presume to tell her what her chances are. She has no idea was her chances are, and you want her to tell you what she estimates yours to be? It’s the blind leading the blind.

What the hell is the point? It’s not like you’ll reconsider applying based on what some stranger on CC says. Your time would be better spent doing homework.

Each of us has amassed our own knowledge and insight regarding various schools and institutions through our research. Whether or not you feel as though you can or can not get into a particular school, or whether or not you post one of these types of threads, has no correlation with your ability to provide others with insight and advice. Even so, just because you ask for someone’s input does not necessarily reflect your own opinion on your chances or lack of an opinion.

It definitely does correlate with your ability to judge others. “First, know thyself.”

If you saw your stats, without a name, you would be able to objectively judge those just like you judge the OP’s. You should probably be able to do that somewhat anyways.

Okay guys, lol. Anyhow, all I want to know is if I have any shot whatsoever, or if anyone on here has similar stats, with success.
And I would chance you back, but…as he already said, I really couldn’t provide you with anything useful. :/

Yeah anyways, to the OP. Killer GPA (is that four pt scale??!)

Tests are weak, especially the SAT, but the ACT could stand another point or two as well to really get into the mix of test averages.

If you get a 2100 and you identify as a Native American with Questbridge, you’re going to be golden. Especially applying ED.

Thanks you guys! Anyone else?

that native american hook is huge. re take the SAT and your chances are decent by looking at the objective portion of your resume. You do have a unique circumstance, your ill mother, maybe you can write a killer essay about your mother’s illness and how has that AFFECTED YOU as a person. Try to give columbia every sense of your character and personality.
