Chance me

I am applying to UNC Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, Emory University, University of Rochester, University of Pennsylvania

I am about to be a senior

Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Residency: Georgia
School Type: Kinda crappy in terms of academics

GPA: 4.1 weighted; 3.8 unweighted
SAT: 700 W/ 690 CR/ 720 M (superscore)
SAT II: taking math, physics in the fall and winter
Rank: 4/179
APs: Sophmore: AP World History [5]
Junior: AP Physics B, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP Language Art(waiting on scores)
Senior: Georgia Tech Calculus, AP Literature, AP Economics, AP Physics C or AP Bio
- And a bunch of honors classes

Extracurriculars (this is where i'm pretty screwed)
-- JV soccer 9th and 10th grade, Varsity soccer 11th grade/ Club Soccer 9 10 11 and soon to be 12th
-- First Degree Blackbelt in Karate
-- Tutoring Underclassmen 11 and will be 12th
-- 20+ hours shadowing doctors
-- 150 or so hours of community service, Ronald McDonald House Charities and adminitstrative duties at a local hospice and i also volunteered in Bulgaria- where i was born
-- I am planning on starting a club senior year at school if that counts
-- I would like to do research with a proffesor at Georgia Tech senior year as well but im not too sure how thats gonna work

Honors/Awards (kinda screwed here too i guess)
-- Honor Roll 9, 10, 11, 12
-- Bausch and Lomb Honorary Scholarship Award 11
-- Most Outstanding Math Student of the Year Award 11 (this is a school thing, not really sure if i can even put it
-- Science Scholar of the Year Award (again from school)
-- Georgia Certificate of Merit Award from UGA
-- National Honor Society (hopefully i get inducted this time senior year)

The reason i dont have that many extracurriculars is because of the fact that in 9th grade my grandparents came to live with us from Bulgaria so a lot of times i've had to take care of them after school. I live with my mom and she wouldn't let me get a job because she thinks working minimum wage is a waste of time.

Teacher Recs: One from my physics teacher who was basically the guy who convinced the school to give me the Baush and Lomb thing -- pretty good relationship with him
One from my calc teacher junior year--also very good relationship

Conselour Rec: Since my school is pretty retarded, I am like one of the top students so they seem to really like me even though im pretty weak everywhere else except for my GPA- should get a pretty good recommendation from him

So yea, if anyone has any ideas on how to get started doing research, i would really appreciate the help. I'm going on a campus tour of Georgia Tech on June 25th -- planning on asking them upfront whether something like this is possible.

Your extracurriculars are very nice, except in the area of leadership. Your internship (I’m assuming that’s where shadowing a doctor is from) and many hours of volunteer definitely put your application on a good note.

You have an impressive AP rack your junior year, and your awards are very good.

Ninth place in the school puts you in the top 5% which is okay.

Decent SATs.

You can also add AP Scholar with Honor award on your awards list. If you pass all of the APs you’ve taken this year, then you’ll be awarded that honor in the Fall.

Are you instate for UNC or GT?

If you’re not instate for GT, then can you pay full freight? If not, take it off your list.

im instate for GT

What is full freight?
