Chance Me?

Projected:
GPA: 3.88 (all honors/ap)

Class Rank: Top 5% (#16/800 I think)

SAT: 2210 (770m 690cr 750w)

APs: few 3s, mostly 4s and 5s (10 total)

CS: 700hrs service in nursing home. (presidential service award - gold)

Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)

EC:
Play Piano for fun (11 years; some very minor awards)
Clubs years 9-12:
*FLBA (Future Business Leaders Association): Vice-President
- Won some regional awards and some state (Economics and Math)
*Students for the Advancement of Gifted Education: Public Relations Officer (9th)
*Academic Decathlon
- Won some school and regional awards
Clubs 10-12:
*Table Tennis Society (Recreational)

Projected Major: Economics

I really dont think im that good because my ECs suck.

Anyway I am looking into

Cornell (Maybe ED)
Northwestern (Maybe ED)
Rice (Maybe ED)
UPenn
Colombia
UC Berkeley
UChicago
That mellon one :)
HYPSM (LOL no chance)

Money isn't an issue, but parents will only pay 40-50k for "good" schools.

Your ECs are pretty good but number doesn’t matter. They look for commitment and passion and what you have learned.

Your GPA is low. Is it weighted? If it is, that’s not going to help you. A 3.8 would be really low if you took 10 AP classes, and the 3s on the exams aren’t a plus either.

But on the bright side, your SAT is really good, you have a lot of volunteer hours and your EC are pretty good. I would suggest getting your gpa up. Your ethnicity might give you a little bit of a better chance. However, they won’t look at your stats and say “no” then see your ethnicity and change their minds completely. You still have to be very competetive.

HYPSM extreme reaches
UPenn reach
Columbia* reach
Cornell low reach
UC Berkeley low reach (depends on where you live)
U. of Chicago low reach / match
Northwestern match
Rice match
Carnegie Mellon match

3.88 is on a 4.0 scale unweighted. I think 5 or 6 B’s rest A’s. I am 16 out of 800 students so ya all my classes are weighted on a 5.0 scale, but Im not very sure of my weighted GPA.

Cornell low reach really?? I thought it was an ivy.

btw I live in AZ.

Arizona is a plus. Good shot at Rice or NU if you apply ED.

That’s good, at least.

Your school has ~800 seniors?! If you ED to Cornell you’re probably in. That’s my advice

I hope you have a couple of safety schools that you are planning on applying to as well. I don’t think any of the schools you have listed are in that category for your stats/profile.

lol im not a senior, I put at the start “Projected:” and then undermined everything, hopefully I will have 1k + hours.
@cobftw: YES!!! so much competition, school is ~ 3500 kids I think

eak325 nailed it.
