Looking to apply early admission single choice to Tulane:

3.56 GPA weighted
over 100 hours community service
treasurer of a community service club (junior, senior year)
played 5 or higher singles for our varsity tennis team (have won states for over 5 consecutive years)
held a good summer job that required my tennis ability
have taken AP calc ab, AP chemistry, AP psych, AP physics b
duel citizenship with US and Germany, I speak both German and English fluently

I go to a fairly good school and Tulane has been known to accept a lot of kids from my school and offer scholarships. I am hoping the fact that one of my siblings currently attends the school will help my chances to get in.

Oh and I have over 20 hours volunteering at the local hospital. I don’t know if that helps

Wow, hard to know how much having a sibling attending will help. It certainly doesn’t hurt, but really hard to say if it will help enough. Your stats are a bit short of the mark, and you couldn’t have picked a worse year, probably. This class is going to be smaller by as many as 230 students because the class that just entered was so large. At least that is what President Cowen announced. That means it will be especially competitive. I doubt there is anything any of us can tell you that helps except show as much interest as possible.

I was just thinking, and this may be way off base. But if your desire is to be near your sibling, you could apply to Loyola next door. That way if you do really well your freshman year you could try and transfer, if you want to. I mean of course you can go elsewhere and transfer, but this would be especially convenient and Loyola is a good school, just not as competitive as Tulane.

Yeah when I visited Tulane I saw that Loyola was right next door. My goal isn’t to be with my sibling though it just happens to be that she transferred there after coming on a tour with me of the campus. Tulane seems to like my school though. Here is the statistical chart for the past 4 years of students admitted http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1025/tulane.png . From my grade point average and SAT score it seems I have a chance I was just really seeing if my extracurriculars were good enough.

Can’t hurt to apply!
