You’re “in”, but I don’t know about a direct admit into engineering with your GPA and SAT. You can transfer in from Letters and Sciences if you don’t initially get admitted. Good luck!

Definitely in, if your letters of rec and essays are good you can pretty much assume for direct admit. (GPA/SAT is a little on the lower end, but still stronger than average as a whole). The Naval training and leadership should be a good boost to your application.

3.5 weighted
That’s not above average for engineering…
In for the university, but like astrophysicsmom, am not too sure if you will get into Clark.

Thank you. Yeah, my GPA is trash. And I’m ****ed at myself. It’s cause I was lazy freshy and sophy year. Didn’t do homework. Last year I actually started caring and did my homework and had a GPA of 3.9 weighted. Too little too late to be honest, but I suppose better late than never and they will like the upward trend.

I’m not too worried about getting into the University, it’s only the engineering I’m worried about. What do you think my chances are? Do you think the odds are for me, against me, or about dead even? I know it’s hard to tell and isn’t an exact science. I’m feeling like it’s somewhere between unlikely and 50/50.

If I don’t get direct admit into Clark I’ll probably just end up going to Purdue or Penn State if I get into their Engineering schools.

@Drill kid, I’d say between a 1/3 to a 1/2 chance of getting in… your SAT is on par (of course, it would have been better to have a better math, but, w/e it’s over 1300 super scored…)
That GPA is low though.
How did you do in your math/sci classes? The better, the better your chance.

Alrighty then. One more question, do they even look at essays as a factor for admissions into Clark? One of my essays makes an extremely compelling and almost heart touching argument as to why I wish to become an engineer. Will that help?

Unfortunately that really won’t - because Maryland (the school) is so big, it’s almost entirely statistics driven. It may push you over the edge if you’re right on the edge, but it’s not really a deciding factor. They use essays much more for honors/scholarships, where the population is much smaller.
