OOS
Applied EA to school of Kinesiology to major in Athletic Training
ACT: 28
SAT: 1920
GPA: 3.77 UW
courseload: IB prep and honors classes freshman year honors english and algebra 2/trig (10th grade), AP US History, IB HL 1 and 2 English. IB HL 1 and 2 History. IB/AP Biology. IB/AP Calc junior year (basically the hardest classes i could possibly take)

EC's: Figure skater for 14 years, competitive for 8 of those, longtime volunteer within skating community, job as skating instructor (I am pursuing a career in coaching, which is why I applied to school of kinesiology)

Clarinetist in Wind Ensemble for last 3 years (been playing for 6 years), played in viva city at orchestra hall, 1st chair, etc. Member of pep band---have played in some high-profile parades.

Recommendations: Should be excellent. In counselor recommendation she mentions some special family circumstances that make the GPA i've maintained look really good. Recommendation written by english teacher who is very fond of my writing abilities

I know my ACT/SAT is on the low side..... but would my GPA considering my courseload and my EC's possibly make up for it??

How large is your school cuz that seems like a limited course load if its what they offer

Also I have know idea how kinesiology works for accepting students. Your grades aren’t amazing but your ECs really hit on what you want to do. So idk

Pretty big school, very competitive. My current rank is 69 out of 458 (top 15%). I REALLY wish they still did quarterly grading, because my GPA would be at a 3.8 right now if it did.

My school offers many options when it comes to classes, the more rigorous being AP, and the most rigorous being IB. I took both the hardest english and history classes I possibly could for the grades i was in. Also, I took spanish 3 freshman year, spanish 4 sophomore year, and IB SL Spanish junior year (aka spanish 5). Was a year ahead in mathematics and sciences every year. Oh! and I got a 4 on the AP lit and comp exam.

lol, not too many people seem to know much about the kinesiology program…maybe that’s a good thing?? I definitely hope my background in athletics will give me a boost!

I mean, I don’t know how competitive it is but you seem over qualified to be a coach, in a good way.

well thanks! I’m really hoping I have a shot at Umich, it’s a great school with a great athletics program, and there’s two really good skating clubs right in the area.

funny because i’m also a competitive figure skater and am a junior skating coach and teach the tots kids and teach camp and birthday parties and everything! We have similar profiles i have a 3.76 GPA and 29 ACT score and AP/honors classes all through high school

Haha too funny!!! We’re like twins! Are you looking to pursue a career in coaching/ major in Athletic Training as well?!

i know!! hhaha ive only been skating for 9 years though. but umm no not really but i do want to pursue a career with children
i really like the whole biological sciences area so im considering being a physicians assistant in pediatrics or doing something with nutrition public health
where do u want to go?

Wow that’s still a long time! That sounds like a fun area to specialize in, your experience with working with children will definitely help you there!

And do you mean college-wise, career wise, ice rink- wise? lol

yess def! but coaching is an awsome thing to go into or even teaching in general or maybe even physical therapist or like in sports medicine
college wise!? haha r u a californian?

Yeah I wanna go into athletic training and I know that involves some sports medicine/ injury prevention education of sorts…which will be very useful! I already have everything I need to be a coach, but I wanna get a degree in something sports-related to make me stand out against other coaches. It’s amazing how many coaches don’t have a degree in something sports-related! I am not a californian, unfortunately. I’m a minnesotan! One of my top choices of schools is USC in Los Angeles though! Umich is my no. 1 choice though. Are YOU a Californian?!

yeahh def!! thats good! I know soo true! haha i know one of my skating coaches got a degree in sports psychology
ya USC is a really nicee school!
haha yessiree i am a californian haha. ohhh minnesota! nice
do u go to shattucks st. marys? i know thats random but i just know its in minnesota haha

And a life long friendship is born

+1 internet

and is the 3.77 your unweighted? so whats your weighted?

lol @ MLDWoody!

yeahh MN is pretty cool! Some it’s so nasty and cold that I wish I was in CA! I don’t go to Shattuck, I actually go to school/train up in the twin cities. Yeah USC is really good, but I’m guessing I won’t get in. It has like a 20% acceptance rate or something like that! I’m really crossing my fingers for Umich though. There are so many more skating and coaching opportunities in MI than in MN!

The 3.77 is my unweighted, I have NO idea what my weighted is! They’ve actually never told us anything about weighted GPA’s at my school.

A lot more people must apply to USC though. I mean its in LA. Kids who have little shot at all apply just for that reason.

Yeah, definitely. That’s why I applied. It’s definitely a reach school for me though. I hope Umich isn’t as much of a reach for me!
