Hey guys so this is my first ever post in the forum, so i apologize in advance if i do something wrong, unknowingly!

So the universities that I am thinking of are:
Washington University at St Louis
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan

Major: Undeclared engineering?

Academics:

SAT I: 1980 (took the October test, probably increase in about 100 im guessing?)
SAT II: Math: 800 Chem: 710

I live in HK (but I was born in the states), and my school follows the IB system.
Currently predicted 43-45 (we can assume it's 44)

Participated in HKUST two engineering summer courses, obtained an A and A- (highest grade A+)

Extra curriculars:

2-3 leadership roles
2 sports (not professional level)
1 volunteer/community service

undeclared engineering is an oxymoron… you either apply undeclared or apply for engineering. Just be careful because most schools have caught onto people applying undeclared, then quickly changing their major

WashU: reach
Illinois: high match
Michigan: low reach

Mine please?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567285-chance-transfer.html

What he mean is applying to college of engineering without declaring major. Only for UIUC that you apply to specific major. You may still choose undecided though. Nevertheless, your SAT1 score is a bit low for these top engineering schools. UIUC does not consider SAT2 scores, while UMich may consider it. Your chance for UMich and UIUC engineering is not good. They are reach for you. Try to bring up your SAT at least ~200 points to have a better chance.

I would say wash U and mich are both reaches cause of the SAT. Illinois is a high match you should get in there.

UIUC engineering is as competitive as UMich although it has a higher acceptance rate. The mid 50 ACT is 31-34 for both and average GPA are both 3.9 too. UIUC engineering is rank #5 while UMich ranked #7. I would not say it can be any easier to get in than UMich unless it is in state for OP.

Thanks guys, I’m hoping to get a couple hundred extra marks for SAT, so hopefully that’ll give me a boost to about 2100, will that change the reach/low reach of Washington and UM. Also, I’ve heard that, although not officially acknowledged by universities for obvious reasons, undeclared engineering would have a lower chance of being admitted due to the large number of admits?

SAT 2100 would make you low reach and perhaps high match for UIUC or UMich CoE as it is at the 25% of admission.

Thanks for the great help! I’d just like to mention the fact that my school limits us to only 6 applications, so it really puts a lot of pressure on us making the best/safest choices -.-’’
