Chance meee!

Tech is my #1 school and I want to get into Tech really bad!

I live in the same county as Gerogia Tech ( if that helps at all)

GPA- 3.68 ( I ruined my GPA first semester of Junior Year....)
SAT/ACT- 1860 ( SAT isnt my friend) ACT: 28 with 31 in math..

APs- World History, Language and Composition, Physics B, Physics C, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Psycology

Dual Enrollment- College English at Georgia Perimeter College

Honors- Everything else ( includes foreign language), except for 9th grade Language Arts

Extra circular- 2nd degree black belt, founded club in school that aids refugees suffering from the ongoing genocides in Northern Africa, treasurer for school Science National Honors Society, part of school debate team for 2 years, part of school Ultimate Frisbee team, Went to Texas A&M for course on Science of energy, went to Duke Marine Lab for course on Oceanography, Went to Johns Hopkins for course on Robotics.

Over the summer, I did an internship working with a professor in the University of Utah on a grant-research project for Environmental Engineering ( should have good recommendation from professor)

over 120 hours of service, part of school ambassador club.

Im Indian by ethnicity

I have taken the Engineering class in my school for electives... i am also doing another internship in an environmental engineering firm during the school year.

I want to major in Environmental Engineering

What are my chances??

Is that GPA your W or UW?

Its the Georgia Tech Recalculated GPA

What’s your ACT breakdown?

31 math
26 english
25 english/writing
29 reading

9 on my essay

So you’d have a 27 on the Tech scale (Math, English and English/Writing) which is on the low-end, since their mid-50% is 28-32 and your GPA is a little low as well. You’re on target for the number of APs, though, because I think their average is 8 and the dual enrollment will probably help. You’re also really good for extracurriculars and your summer programs are great, especially if you’re talking about Duke TIP and CTY Johns Hopkins. The internships are great too, although Tech doesn’t accept recommendations. Overall, I’d say you stand an okay shot at admission as long as you’re willing to attend summer session if necessary or take a spot on the wait list. Being in-state should help too, but Tech’s been trying to recruit more girls lately, so that might work against you. I’d just suggest writing a solid essay and focusing on any special skills you might have, liking taking honors foreign language courses. The engineering stuff is nice but almost everyone applying for environmental engineering is gonna have experience in it, so I don’t know how much you’ll stand out. You might also want to explain what happened your junior year that affected your GPA so much.

Thanks a lot for your comments, yea Im pretty sure I made a solid essay and had it checked multiple times with different people, i took advantage of the special reasoning page and talked about what happened my junior year… I ll be hearing back from them in 3 days… Hope i get in , and good luck to everyone else who applied!

Your chances are solid, though junior year is the wrong time to ruin your GPA. Great ECs. There’s a kid in my class with a 3.8 GPA and 1800 SAT bit he’s President of everything lol. He was accepted in November, so scores aren’t everything.

Btw I’m waiting for Friday as well. Let’s hope we both get in!!!

Lets hope so too! Good Luck to you!
