Chance Meh Pls (~Will chance back~)

Hey all  My name is Eric, and I am currently a Junior at a competitive high school in Iowa. My class has 536 people in it, and I am in the top 5%. I’m VERY interested in going to a school of business, so I thought about getting my chances read! Thank you very much, and I will chance back.

Haven’t had my senior year… will keep all these and add more.

Volunteering:

Animal Rescue League: 100 Hours
Church Mission Groups: 20 Hours locally, 200 Hours out of State

To make up for my weak Volunteering aspect of my resume, I will be starting a small business over the summer. It will be a Lawn Mowing Business in which I donate all funds raised to a charity of which I choose. I could easily make 2,000$ to donate in that summer.

Colleges Interested in: Duke, Stanford, Penn, Brown, Purdue, University of Illinois – Urbana, Iowa, Iowa State, and University of Northern Iowa.

Leave a link and I will chance you back ;)

I think you have a great chance at all of those schools… the only ones you should be even remotely concerned about are…

Duke~ I would say that you are in

Stanford~ I think there is no general outline for the top 5 schools… everyone is going to have great stats like yours and there is really no way to tell… it is just what special qualities they are looking for that year

Penn~ I would say your in (bro got in 3 years ago with less impressive stats)

Brown~ in

Hoped this helped

Thanks - phew. I’m kicking my self for slacking off in LOL Geometry as a Freshman. It was the only course I have ever not earned an A in, so it’s kind of a fluke. Ah well.

Did you want me to chance you back?

Don’t worry about your B lol. A 3.99 UW is something to be proud of!

Your GPA looks good. Your rank is a little low (I mean high), but considering your weighted GPA it shouldn’t be a problem.

The ECs look good. Your having your own business should be a big plus considering you want to major in business.

Good luck.

Chance me back if you want: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/697463-interested-seeing-ways-improve-my-application.html</a></p>

~Chanced Both of you Back~

Yes, my class rank is bad because of the competitiveness of my school. I might raise to like 15 next year if some of them don’t take as many hard classes as I do, but of course, I doubt that! :)

By the end of my senior year I will be ranked ~18.

That’s why I’m kicking myself for that dumb B+!!! :)

Your stats are really good, so you should be in great shape for most of these schools.
The only thing that stood out for me was your lack of APs, as colleges like to see kids who challenge themselves.
Your ECs make up for it though, so don’t worry about that B+ either :)

Can you chance me back also?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/696982-chance-rising-junior.html</a></p>

~Chanced you back~

I took all the AP courses available. Honors from where I am from is the more difficult of the 2 :)

DOH!!! I forgot to say that AP at our school just means AP… Honors means its more difficult then the standard AP class AND you have to take the AP test at the end… all the classes up there are “AP”

That makes sense then haha
As long as you’re taking the hardest courses possible your school has to offer, then you look like you’re in great shape.

Your stats look great for all of the schools. Try and get your test scores as high as possible for Stanford, Penn, Duke and Brown. You are into the others easily.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/697974-chances-acceptance-scholarships-plz-help.html</a></p>

What I figured. What is the norm SAT scores and ACT scores for those who go to those school?

The others I can have a 22 ACT and get in… LOL. If I went to the other three I have full rides ;)

The average is probably like a 2150 for those few. With your gpa you might be able to go a little lower but def try for over 2100 at least. Chances me back plz

I did  :)

bumpppppppppppppppp

Wow-your GPA is amazing! I’d say you have a very very good chance at U of Illinois, and at all of the Iowa schools (I don’t know much about them, although I am guessing they are not difficult to get in to).

I would say Duke is at your level, but keep in mind to work very hard on your essays and interview.

For Stanford, Penn and Brown, you’ll probably need to improve your SAT to at least a 2200. Your EC’s are good, especially all the debate, although most of them are not anything that makes you stand out. Raising your SAT will probably compensate for that.

Still, all of the Ivies and Stanford are reaches for anyone because they are so competitive, so you need to find something that makes you YOU, be it in your essays, interviews, or extracurriculars you take on now.

(Please chance me back BTW! Thanks!)

Wow - thanks for the helpful information… I will DEFINITELY work on that!!!

I guess the business thing wasn’t enough, so I’ll think of something.

To get into the Iowa schools, you just need to be in the top half of your class with 22+ ACT scores  Easy!!! It’s just a regular state school for EXTREME safety.

I will chance you back!

bumppy de bump bump!!!

I am still chancing back btw!!!

With current rank and scores there’s nothing to push you into Stanford, Brown or Wharton and Duke is a reach. You need to up your scores for these schools and figure out a way to differentiate yourself. The typical accepted student at Wharton and Stanford is very top of their class and has very high 700’s SAT scores across the board along with outstanding EC’s and national level accomplishments.

Iowa will help you though, so with some beefing up you certainly will have a shot.

Also, do schools check your Absences?

Okay you’re saying your school only offers ONE AP??? Stats? That is un poco loco if you ask me. Your ECs and GPA are good, but the lack of APs is freaking me out about your chances. If honors really is harder than AP, then you should take the AP exams for those classes to prove you know the material as well as an AP student would.
Duke - I don’t know much about it, but you will need a 2200+.
Stanford - You will need to pray a lot and get a 2250+. (same with Penn and brown).
The rest - You have a really good shot.
The reason I gave you such a high SAT requirement is because of the way you described your school. If honors really is the highest at your school, then I can’t see a B+ killing your rank that much. The only way I could see that is if some kids took AP Euro and got As while you took honors Euro and got an A.
In the end, Ivies and stanford are meant for people with exceptional talent and kids that are ranked really highly in their classes. If you can demonstrate that extraordinary talent with your SATs, then you should be all set. (Meaning you will have the same chance as the rest of us).

But:
Congrats on the GPA
Great ECs!
And sorry for being kind of a jerk.
