chance: MIT/Cornell/CMU/etc; will chance back :D

Stanford is as mainstream as it gets.

UChicago and MIT are the two most interesting possibilities on your list.

That said…Harvard looks pretty interesting to me. ;)

Stanford is indeed very mainstream. But Harvard…is the king of mainstream. Everyone seems to want to go there. They do have exchange programs with MIT though, so I might consider it.

Lol yeah but, see, that’s why Harvard’s NOT mainstream. It’s so extreme, so far out on the right long-tail of the distribution curve…it’s literally abnormal!

haha but the act of applying there is mainstream lol

I agree with the rest of the posters here, but i’d like to add that you should get an interview for your MIT application. It will GREATLY increase your chances. I believe only 1% get in without an interview.

Although CMU is definitely a match for you, even if you ARE applying for CS, which is their most prestigious department. You have the scores for it.

Could you chance me here? I’m in a very similar situation to you except with weaker SAT scores and ECs. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1523762-chance-cmu-mit-cornell-caltech-uiuc.html</a></p>

Skyrior, oh my god. You know, as an international applicant - your applcation against mine, you would win hands down! I love your leadership skills, and clearly you show a very strong leadership capability. As with what everyone says about SATs/Qualifications, they meet the minimum requirements. However, as I have heard time and time again, MIT recognises that SATs are a terrible marker for distinguishing at high levels of achievement. Nevertheless you should be ecstatic with your scores! I love your programming skills, and as a programmer myself, that’s impressive! What languages do you code in?

Anyway, back to the grind:

For the science colleges (the only ones I can really comment about):
MIT - reach
Comp Science - high match
Stanford - reach

Just a couple of points: you haven’t really shown that aside from Music/Programming that you passionately enjoy anything else? Also, if you’re not in anything competitive for sport - never mention it :P

I think you’re fine…Good luck!

MIT, Stanford, Chicago: Reach to high reach
(There is no such thing as match or high match for these schools.)

You will get into some great colleges.
So, wait and pray!!!

Thanks.
Python (injector into games…nah, I’m never going to talk about this)
C++, C# (for software)
Java (first language I’ve learned)

I enjoy:
philosophy, psychology, pure math, theoretical physics, neuroscience, literature…
too many things that I do in my free time. I’d rather focus on one or two that I have accomplishments in

Thanks for your reply :)

Thanks :)

–> 20more

Thanks
I still hold my opinion that there is a possibility to pull them down to match if you know more insider info. If not, how could people even get in there? Sure, they say “we have to reject a lot of people that we like every year, and that’s painful”, but what they didn’t say is “although we like everyone, we like some people more than others”. A lot of things contribute to one’s success or failure. For example, Chicago Uni is currently giving priority to those who could contribute to their orchestra etc. To maximize your success in UChicago, you would want to have experience in a real orchestra…and stuff.

However, cracking the codes take far too long and is an absolute waste of time. But it is possible (albeit very hard)

Skyrior, with such opponent I feel like a feeble bug (I’m international, with the same list and intended major :D).
Sure, your scores are amazing it’s very important to foreign students. Can you answer my stupid question : what’s your gender? I think that universities try to accept equal number of students of both gender. Thank you

male

If you believe in equal intelligence in both genders, you would likely believe that universities wouldn’t consciously try to accept equal number of students of both gender. I don’t think gender matters individually (though statistically it seems to matter)
