Chance My Brother!

Hello,
My younger brother is going to apply to boarding school for the fall of 2010 (currently 7th grader). Here are his stats:

Straight A student (1 B+)
Honorable mention at our State's Science Fair
Star Orchestra Student award in the 6th grade
Plays in the school orchestra and is 2nd chair violin
Hockey team is ranked 2 in our state
Baseball team is ranked 56 in nation
School Cross Country Champion 2 yrs in a row
Middle School Vice President
Involved in 3 after school activies (Leader of school science club)
Plays the drums outside of school and plays in a band
He interviews very well and his recs are going to be good because he is a great student in class. He's not very worried about that part. He also is a great writer so the essays should be considerably good.

The only thing possibly holding him back is his SSAT scores. He got a 78% on verbal and a 83% on the other two sections. I'm guessing it will improve a little bit before the actual test. Do you think he'll still be in the running. He will be applying to Exeter, SPS, Taft, Hotchkiss, and Kent. PLEASE CHANCE HIM!!!!

and needs 75%FA

Is he a star athlete in any of his sports? I would suggest contacting coaches down the road.

Sarum: YES! Good thing you posted that I completly forgot.
mpicz: He is a star athlete. We will be contacting the coaches.

Alot depends on the economy and the schools’ endowments I’m afraid. Chancing now isn’t a wast of time, but might not mean much in 6 months.
Depending on what schools he applies to and what improvements he can make on his test scores.
If I were you, I would tell him to start a club right now that does something constructive within your community. It will set him apart. The higher profile the better. He can kick ass with it over the summer and you can help him. It will be on his EC’s for the BD apps.
Test scores won’t hold him back if he is a community organizer, just look at our current President:)

yah, I would contact coaches.
