So, i finally realized how close senior year is for me and thought i should start looking into schools around my area to see which ones i have a decent shot at. So here we go:
My UWGPA comes out to be 3.23 (so low :C) and my WGPA being 4.5, my class rank will probably be top 25% and i have taken 9 APs. My EC's are good with interning at various hospitals in the summer and i have one leadership position. My recs are excellent and i dont need financial aid(dont know if this matters). I am instate and my SATs are 2190(retaking) the M+CR being 1430. Thanks for any input.

If you are instate then 90 percent chance that you are in. If your major is engineering or business, you might not get into that major directly because they are LEP.

Yeah sorry if i didnt mention it but i am instate. I hope your right because i had a meeting with my counselor today and he basically said it would be pretty hard to get into :C. Other input would be appreciated.

UMD puts a lot of weight on SAT scores, as well as GPA. Your SAT scores are so strong, I think you’ll be fine.

If you show a lot of initiative your first semester senior year and have an upward trend in grades, I think you should be fine. Just make sure to write a really good essay!

thanks alot guys, your really giving me some kind of hope that i might actually get into UMD. Hopefully my SAT II scores help too (750 in U.S. Hist, 750 in Math 2, and 740 in bio)

yes, those SAT II’s will help. Nice job!

haha thanks alot!

ah “chance me” thread!
i haven’t seen such thread for a while :D

hey, you’ll be fine, plus you’re in-state. I think you have a decent shot for Honors. If you do really well on the niche questions, maybe Gemstone as well.

UMCP highly values the CR+M scores. One of my friends has overall UW GPA of 3.4, but got into honors b/c of his 1530 CR+M scores.

haha thanks, that 1530 blows me out of the water but im fine with anything as long as i get in. Thanks for these responses :D

does UMCP look at SAT IIs? According to there site:
“We also do not evaluate SAT II scores as a factor in the admissions decision.”

You’re right, Armaryland17, that SAT II’s aren’t required, but I’m sure they’re accepted. I am sure they can only help mnkyman in this case.

Mnkyman, I’ll be shocked if you don’t get in to UMD. While the average unweighted is around 3.5, the average weighted GPA is about a 3.9, so those 2 factors should balance out. Also, you are well above the middle 50% range for SAT scores, which are between a 1240-1390.

haha thanks, i was just worried because when i saw their average gpa being a 3.9 i thought it meant unweighted and became extremely nervous. Hopefully they do look at my SAT II’s but if not then thats ok.

you’re instate…
you’re good…
you’ll get in…
trust me :)

I got in spring semester with 3.24 GPA, 3 AP classes, 1600 SAT(out of 2400!), with no extra currialum. If I got in, then you should get in.

haha thanks, my friends kept telling me that i was stupid for worrying about this but i had to know lol.
